Helicopter landing at the farm after everything quit working? Check. Outrageous (sort of) demands being made by the regional military command? Check. Clayton Sanders drafter back into the Army? Che-, er what? (insert record skipping noise).

Army Colonel Hal Woodson visits the farm and appeals to both Clayton and Greg Holloway to step up and help restore order to the region. Each has their own job to do and their own role to play. For Clay? Escort a convoy of relief supplies in the area. Previous convoys in their area have all gone missing without a single person or vehicle returning.

It's more than a mystery, it's a travesty in a time when supplies are in short supply, working vehicles are priceless, and living souls after the plague are far fewer than before the Storm and all it has brought. So, reluctantly, Clay agrees. Because he knows it has to be done, and that he can do it. That doesn't mean he wants to because he doesn't. It just means that he is willing to do what it takes to get his nation, or his part of it anyway, back up on two feet. Even if it means travelling into the sun.

I think I like these books because of the relatable characters and dialog. We talk like them around here. it's a simple listen that's entertaining. I have 500 titles in my library and somehow this is my favorite series!

While expanded story and new characters and a new direction with a storyline. Looking forward to more in the series.

Great read

I have loved this whole series. I want to live among these people. They are trying to rebuild the world. I really enjoy the complexity of characters and the ingenuity required to solve the problems caused by serious catastrophes.
I now associate the narrator with this series and enjoy his dry wit.

I think that the addition or Jada was excellent. I really liked this book and the changes you made.

Loved new characters

The story continues away from the farm this time but still has a lot of suspense. A lot less violence than at the farm. It might be just me but the voices from the narrator all basically sounded the same even though it’s the same narrator. In previous books each character had a distinct voice and you could tell who was talking, in this book they all sounded the same. Also, it seemed they were always laughing about something; got to be annoying after awhile.

A great story that is realistic it could happen, and if we did have a solar anomaly, and it took down, all infrastructure all over the world
We would go back to pre-industrial age. Most people would not make it as the book shows. Thank you.

When I had my podcast, he was my first interview, and he is as good of a human being as he is a writer. It’s always a good day when another one of his hits the shelves.

NC is one of my favorites
