Great individual stories!

I like the fact that the author switched back and forth from macro to micro stories and then back again!

Authority on the eastern front topic! A must!

The book is detailed and the author manages to weave in mini stories throughout, many in the form of first hand accounts. I wish I had a map in front of me as the movements is units can become overwhelming. Unlike most other eastern front writers, Mr. Butter is unbiased and provides context that’s not influenced by the narrative of both Soviet and “western” post WW2 politics.
