Publisher's summary

It has been four years since ex-Navy SEAL Jack Haliday, had an explosive run-in with a biker gang, wounding their leader, Gunner. During those years, Jack had acquired everything he ever wanted: a beautiful wife, daughter, and a lovely home in the suburbs - everything was just about as perfect as it could get, until Gunner returned to twist Jack's world inside-out with a vengeance that he could never have prepared for. Now Jack has a score to settle and he's got some friends to help him do it.

Loaded with action and suspense!

Jack's past is coming after him in the form of the leader of a biker gang out for revenge. Jack is tough and very likeable and Gunner, the biker, is as bad as they get. This book has everything: murder and action, suspense and mystery, some laughs and even some tears. Hints of romance to come is also included. I liked this book very much and would like to see what comes next. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

Excellent listen!

Had me on the edge of my seat from the start. Intense and thrilling, but a good dose of humor as well. I loved listening to this and the narrator did an excellent job of bringing the characters to life. Highly recommend this one and look forward to listening to other books in this series. Revenge

Into The Crossfire is an exciting fast-paced listen filled with suspense, murder and and a touch of romance.Ex-Navy Seal, turned detective, Jack Halliday has his world turned upside down, by a criminal from his past, Biker gang leader, Gunner The author shows just how far Jack will go to protect what is left of his family and how far Gunner will go to seek revenge.
I couldn’t help but get drawn into the story as it is filled with intriguing characters, and numerous surprising twists and turns . I was kept guessing what would happen next I look forward to the next book in the series.

Too frequent scene / tone changes.

I received a free copy of this book from the author / narrator / publisher in exchange for an unbiased review.

The book has a very good premise and setup for a thrilling / gritty story. The background created by the first few chapters of the book sets up the mood of the book and it's very promising. But then the author throws all kind of scenes in it and it gets very disjointed. There's a little bit of romance, some kink, explicit sex scene, cozy scenes with kids, bloody action scenes etc. And the scenes keep changing rapidly from chapter to chapter. This results in very confusing read, because you are unable to stay in a certain mood for the story. I wish the scene jumps were less frequent.

The narration below average. No distinguishing element between different character voices.

Great story - very enjoyable

This was really good. It's a very entertaining, well written and fast paced story full of mystery, action, suspense, intrigue, revenge and more. From the minute it starts it pulls you in and keep you on the edge of your seat. There is never a dull moment and you never know what is going to happen next. It held my complete attention from start to finish. This is one of those books that I was irritated if I had to pause it for any reason and couldn't wait to get back to it. Be prepared - once you start it you will want to listen straight through.

Being a police officer is a dangerous job. Even more so when you are involved in undercover work. It's a job that can an often does have deadly consequences not just for the officer but for everyone around them. How far would you go to protect your family and get revenge for the murder of someone you loved.

Great cast of well rounded and interesting characters Both likable and unlikable.

There are a couple of "steamy" scenes so if you don't like any romance in your Mystery/Thrillers this may not be the book for you.

This is the first book by Cindy McDonald I have listened to but it won't be the last. Hopefully the rest of the series will be available on Audible soon.

Kevin Iggens did a good job with the narration overall. This is the first time I have listened to him narrate a book. He has a nice voice that is easy to listen to for long periods of time. His narration flows at a nice steady pace, it was just to dry/monotone for my taste most of the time. There needed to be more life in the narration to match what was happening in the story. He is just "reading" the story for the most part. No matter what was happening in the story his tone and pace stayed the same. Even the "steamy" scenes were done in the same tone of voice. Most of his characters voices sound the same as well. Although his voice for Lill was really good. Like I said before he has a nice voice he just needs to put a little more life into his narration.

Mispronounced words such as wanton gaze - it was pronounced like wonton soup. Not sure if there were editing errors or if the wrong word was spoken at times

Great story

I totally enjoyed this book. Great characters and a storyline that kept me hooked the entire time. It’s a series, but can stand alone as well.

Too many ingredients spoil the story . . .

The story line has a ton of potential, but ti seemed to me that there were just too many stories within the story that didn't seem to fit together well in the final product. You have special forces, detectives, violent biker gangs, little children dealing with loss of a parent, graphic sexual acts, romance, and revenge all tossed into the mix. I got the sense that parts of the story were attempting to be very edgy and tough (biker hideout bondage scene with a policewoman who is an informant for the gang), then switches to endearing and soft (a little girl snuggling with him stuffed animal). The story jumped between incongruent scenes. I kept waiting for the story to pull together, but it never did for me.

I also had a difficult time with the narrator as there was little change in his voice (aside from attempting to sound little a little girl) and even a smaller amount of dramatic effect. He just sort of marched on without much inflection. Although that style of reading works in many audiobooks, it just didn't seem to for me in this case. Perhaps the narrator had as much difficulty following the flow of the story as I did.

Overall I would only recommend this book to someone that had a penchant for biker versus good guys and revenge themes as they overrode any potential for redeeming scenes to unfold.

Action Packed Suspense

A man from Jack's past returns to exact revenge in the most horrific way possible. Into The Crossfire was a wild ride from beginning to end. With an exciting storyline that was loaded with action, suspense and plot twists, there was rarely a dull moment and I was immediately drawn in. The potential future romance hints at a sequel and I'd love to see where it goes. The narration was well done but I would have preferred a little more variation with some of the character voices. I enjoyed Into The Crossfire and would recommend it.

Action packed

I really enjoyed this book. There is constantly something going on to hold your attention and keep you coming back for more. I will definitely listen to the next in the series....hopefully soon since the book was published in 2014. I hope audible will get Cindy McDonald's other series too. This is my first Cindy McDonald book and I absolutely loved it. I will be reading her books from now on if they don't come out in audible form.
