Just went through this book.......................

Just went through this book, really like the answers.

1) Never volunteer information. Keep it all positive. Don’t confess to a weakness. Don’t say anything negative…..Be short and concise. If they want more they will ask you another question!

2) As for salary expectations: Don’t give a number! Instead say, “Can you tell me what range you have budgeted for this position?”, if they provide a range, “That seems like a reasonable ballpark. I am sure once we agree I’m the right person for the job we can then agree on a salary that’s fair”

3) STAR Format for Behavioral Situational questions: and knowing how to end them, 4 ways….!

4) Body Language/ Confidence!

5) Ending on the right note!

Definitely grab this book!

This is an very good to excellent book. I give it 5 stars. I am 15 years into my career, so some of this information was a review. During my next interview, I will try to incorporate a few of her recommendations. One of the recommendations that is very good is to really focus time and effort on crafting an excellent response to "tell me about yourself". My previous responses in other interviews have been long-winded compared to what she recommends. She also makes a great point about not memorizing your responses and by rehearsing them ideally using video. Her recommendation regarding creating numerous stories at each of your companies makes a lot of sense and can be used to respond to various behavioral questions. I think that reading her book in combination with one or more other books on this topic may be great.

Effective and up-to-date

Biggest reason it earns 5-stars - it is highly relevant - interviews in recent years relate to techniques described in this book. Also, it helps organize techniques I already knew into more streamlined, high impact outcome.

Excellent book for job seekers

After listening to this book, I realized I had several deficiencies in my interview style. While I have not landed a new job in the past week or so after listening to the book, I am much more confident in my delivery. I highly recommend this book. The reader also does a phenomenal job in presenting the content.

Surprisingly good.

I’m an employer who is up to his 11th book on hiring skills. Decided to listen to this advice to candidates. From someone that sits on the hiring side of the table, I can tell you that this book gives very solid advice. Canned answers are known to people that hire - we spot them and it reduces your credibility.

One thing. Do the cover letter. It helps personalize your resume - shows you’re interested in the company and why. Lack of a brief direct cover letter stating passion for the role and a few matching past skills might make the difference between you and another. Only takes a minute - check grammar and spelling if the work entails writing ability. Good luck.

Quick and easy listen with great information

So I purchased this book to improve my interview skills. All my jobs in the past have derived from connections or internships where I was able to come in as a student and demonstrate my strong work ethic and skills. The unfortunate part is that I have very little experience in interviewing for a real career position on my own. I am an introvert by nature so this book provided very concise and efficacious strategies. It really opened up my mind to enter an interview with a different mindset. It gave me the black and white version of an interview--very straight forward and good on strategies to optimize the brief time you have in an interview. With this book, I landed the job of my dreams! I highly recommend this book. I will say that it is important to adjust the suggestions and tips in the book to the job you are interviewing for. It is important to be flexible with the ideas given.

The Why and the How of Interviewing

I'm definitely going to listen to this book again. It is packed with information and insights to the point that I listened to one chapter twice and still felt that there was more that I could learn from those same words.

G.S. Hook doesn't feed you the answers to pass the interview. He teaches you how to craft your own answers that address the real questions and highlight the right skills. He's teaching critical thinking and directing you on what to think about.

I'm looking for a new job right now, and I'm likely going to sit down with the Kindle version of this book and outline some answers to common questions. The narration is great. Abernathy is a pro and sounds authoritative in his delivery.

Nails it!

Based on previous interviews throughout my career, the Q&A was nearly, if not a perfect, mirror image of the predicted questions and the recommended responses. The interviews I have had that never went further, literally every one I can now recall where I had provided one or more of the listed bad/wrong answers in this book. Thanks Hook!

Good Tips

I listened to this on my way to a big interview. It really got me ready. It took about 4-5 hours to listen on the way. Then I thought about it and wrote notes that night and the next morning and slammed the interview. It took away some of the nerves and hesitancy listening to and thinking about the interview in advance.

Very informative and useful.

I found this book to be very informative. It helps the reader understand more about where the hiring manager is coming from and their thought processes.

It presents good basic information, from how to dress to what you should avoid talking about in an interview.

Perhaps most important, it addresses a variety of interview questions, giving good answer examples.

Exciting listen. The narrator did a great job !
