Publisher's summary

Aerospace engineer Esther Abbott doesn't believe in love, but she's perfectly happy to hate her annoying screenwriter neighbor, Jonathan. Until she's forced to strike a devil's bargain with him: he distracts her best friend from a mouth-breather ex, and in return Esther will help him with the sci-fi script he's writing.

Her patience is put to the test when it's time to fulfill her end of the deal. But the more time she spends with her nemesis, the more hate turns into attraction - and attraction into something much deeper. As Esther's carefully constructed defenses start to crumble, will love be her undoing or her salvation?

Intermediate Thermodynamics follows in the tradition of contemporary romantic comedy favorites like Penny Reid, Sally Thorne, and Jennifer Crusie. This enemies-to-lovers romance is the second in a series of standalone rom-coms featuring geeky heroines who work in STEM fields.

Contains mature themes.

Just say it!

I really like all the heroines that works in STEM field!!! As one said, and will repeat it “It just has the right mix of humor, real characters, and nerdiness to engage and delight me.” Man, I truly love the audio narrator, Caitlin Kelly, but she does so many other books that I have already listened to. She just have a smooth voice & could definitely make those voices capture personality of each character so well!

Felt Like I was in JR. High

I really struggled to finish with this one. They all needed to get a real life and move on. I had to stop and see if this book was for tweens. The BFF rule was really dumb considering Jenny never even liked Johnthan and their 3 dates were nothing to write about. Esther's life was just unbelievable. She claim she wanted a real guy. However she was willing to through a good one away because Jenny had a fit. Jenny had already moved on. Wow!!! So jr. high.

Fun and Engaging Romance!

Where does Intermediate Thermodynamics rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This audiobook ranks toward the top in it's genre! Nix's easy, engaging style combined with Kelly's fluid read and solid choices make this one I'll likely go back to, which is rare for me!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Give me a heroin with flaws who tries hard and I'm gonna fall in love with her. I love Esther, even when she's frustrating. Maybe especially when she's frustrating.

Which scene was your favorite?

The make-up scene between Esther and Jonathan is fantastic and I love it. I got to work before it was done but had some time before I had to go in so I circled the block a few times. It's the audiobook equivalent of "couldn't put it down."

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The scene between Esther and her brother on the phone was particularly effective. It showed a sibling relationship I could believe in and also admire. They care so much for each other. The make-up scene between Esther and Gin is also great. Again, Nix excels at portraying female friendships that are amazing and complex even if they aren't the focal point of the story.

Light romance reading

Contemporary romance
Not as good as the first one, but a Nice, fun romance between two who appear to be antithetical. Enjoy!

Great story to fill out a PC buzzword-bingo-card

I wanted to like it. But no, the main character is shallow emotionally stunted person, who seems to have a complete lack of self awareness. I'm not sure if this is the characters fault or that of the author. Example, when told during a performance review that she was aggressive, well that clear misogyny, because men never hear that in a review (since we are on the topic of double standards, why is it allowed for women speak with authority on the male experience, but if a man did the same he would be laughed out of the room, and rightly so). Apparently, a female being asked to extend basic human courtesy to her team workers is the equivalent of pouring holy water on vampires. I will caveat that I stopped listening after four hours, as I just couldn't go any further, so it might have gotten better at the end. The first book was pretty good.

Light Humor, enjoyable story

The second in the series and I think I may have laughed just a little more with this one than the first. Great characterization and narration. Just enough humor to keep you wanting to listen, you even get some of the characters from the first book. All in all good use of my time.

cute

not really an enemies-to-lovers thing. Esther was mildly annoyed at him in the beginning she didn't HATE him. but cute nonetheless

Isn't Agressive a good word?

So I liked the book but this comes in to mind, im male by the way, and me and my sister is always called aggressive, cause we are and we are proud of it, we always take it as a compliment and say thank you, however in this audiobook it was used it such a bad way that I think author's least favorite word is aggressive, or is agressive used in bad way in U.S?

Exasperating

Only like two things happen and the guilt and self recrimination are laid on waaaay too thick. Could have been great with some editing, I did love the characters, but felt like it lost its way half way through.
