Story
This isn't real life. This isn't even cheese mongering. It's opera - where the music matters, and where an opera house is being terrorised by a man in evening dress with a white mask, lurking in the shadows, occasionally killing people, and, most worryingly, sending little notes, writing maniacal laughter with five exclamation marks. Opera can do that to a man. In such circumstances, life has obviously reached that desperate point where the wrong thing to do has to be the right thing to do.

Story
Never let real life get in the way of a good story, especially when a good story involves three witches, including a fairy godmother, and travelling to a faraway land to make sure that a servant girl doesn't marry a prince. It looks as though a happy ending may be averted before catastrophe strikes. But unfortunately, the forces of good are up against a godmother who has made Destiny an offer it can't refuse.

Football has come to the ancient city of Ankh-Morpork - not the old-fashioned, grubby pushing and shoving, but the new, fast football with pointy hats for goalposts and balls that go gloing when you drop them. And now, the wizards of Unseen University must win a football match, without using magic, so they're in the mood for trying everything else.

Story
War has come to Discworld...again. And, to no one's great surprise, the conflict centers around the small, insufferably arrogant, strictly fundamentalist duchy of Borogravia, which has long prided itself on its ability to beat up on its neighbors. This time, however, it's Borogravia that's getting its long-overdue comeuppance, which has left the country severely drained of young men.

Story
Sam Vimes is on a well-deserved holiday. But for the commander of the City Watch, a vacation in the country is anything but relaxing. The balls, the teas, the muck - not to mention all that fresh air and birdsong - are more than a bit taxing on a cynical city-born and -bred copper. Yet a policeman will find a crime anywhere if he decides to look hard enough, and it’s not long before a body is discovered, and Sam - out of his jurisdiction, out of his element, and out of bacon sandwiches (thanks to his well-meaning wife) - must rely on his instincts, guile, and street smarts to see justice done.

Tiffany Aching has spent years studying with senior witches, and now she is on her own. As the witch of the Chalk, she performs the bits of witchcraft that aren't sparkly, aren't fun, don't involve any kind of wand, and that people seldom ever hear about: She does the unglamorous work of caring for the needy. But someone - or something - is igniting fear, inculcating dark thoughts and angry murmurs against witches.

Publisher's Summary
Interesting Times, the 17th novel in Terry Pratchett's Discworld series, finds the planet's oldest empire in the midst of bitter turmoil after the publication of the revolutionary treatise What I Did on My Holidays.
Workers, with nothing to lose but their water buffaloes, are joining forces against old warlords, spreading violence throughout Discworld's ancient cities. All that stands in the way of total destruction are three decidedly non-heroic creatures: Rincewind, the world's dumbest wizard, Cohen the Barbarian, who stands 5 feet tall in his surgical sandals and a very special butterfly.
Please note: This is a vintage recording. The audio quality may not be up to modern day standards.

As always in the disc world spectacular listening!
Listening to Neigel Planer narrate Interesting Times is as wonderful as witnessing a flash of octarine light in person. The characters come to life as if by magic, or as Rincewind would have it by complete coincidence. I find myself running to the next book. Thank you!

Vintage Pratchett
If you're a terry Pratchett fan then this is a welcome addition to your audio book collection. Interesting Times is a classic Disckworld novel, with the return of rincewind the Wizzard, Twoflower, Cohen and The Luggage. That said, it doesn't quite match up to the previous Rincewind books and feels unusually by the numbers for a Pratchett novel, although an average Pratchett is still a very worthy listen indeed.
Nigel Planer does his usual excellent job as Narrator, with a vocal style that matches the source material perfectly and draws you into the story beautifully.

Very poor quality audio
The book and Nigel Planer's reading of it are as good as always but this is an extremely poor quality copy of it, with lots of audio distortion, changes in pace as though an original cassette tape has stretched, and odd interruptions that again seem to mark the end of an old set of audio cassettes. Audible should not be offering this very substandard version for sale. I recommend that you do not buy it.

Interesting Times, Good Times
There are just too many things I love about this story. It makes me laugh and smile and cry and want to kill the bad guys. It also shows how much like warfare teaching really is. The organised and polite rebellion is delightfully sweet and completely ridiculous. And just when things couldn?t get any worse here comes the world?s worst wizard and a hoard of (silver) barbarians. Not to mention there?s always the butterfly?.

Another excellent Pratchett
If any of you are at all familiar with Pratchett's work you will know of the wizard Rincewind, if not, get The colour of Magic and become so. This I think is possibly one of Pratchett's best involving the most useless and cowardly wizard in all of literary history, while The last Continent may be funnier, Interesting Times is more thought provoking, while still remaining incredibly amusing as always.

I wish I could write like Terry did, I wish the legend was still with us. What would he have made about the interesting times that we’re all living in now??
This story is about life, laughter, heroism and gratuitous violence...that mostly...doesn’t happen.
Nigel Planer is awesome, his voice and cadence submerses you in an epically, accidental adventure. Honestly doesn’t disappoint.

Wonderful book and great narrator
I adore the Discworld novels, and this one was particularly good. The ever pessimistic Rincewind stars again alongside a brilliant Genghis Cohen and his Silver Horde. In general, I prefer the Vimes stories to the Rincewind ones, but I thoroughly enjoyed 'Interesting Times'. The story was told very well, with distinct voices for each character and lively and engaging narration. Some of the geriatric barbarians were sometimes difficult to distinguish from one another, as were some of the characters from the Empire. I also thought the voice of Death could have been better done, and the footnotes were occasionally hard to understand. Overall though, excellent!
