Publisher's summary

In the near future, a nation is in peril as civil unrest and insurrection spreads in the wake of coordinated attacks by anarchists and terrorists. Battles between dissident factions rage in the streets from coast to coast as many cities and towns become war zones. Travel and communications are severely restricted, food and fuel supplies disappear, and the economy teeters on the brink of collapse....

Professional security contractor, Eric Branson, has been plying his trade fighting ongoing insurgencies in Europe when he realizes America faces the same fate. Before he can make his way home to south Florida, a powerful hurricane deals the final blow to an infrastructure already ravaged by burning and looting, leaving survivors cut off and on their own. It is here amid the death and destruction that Eric begins his search for those he left behind, and here that his warrior skills will be tested as never before.

Good listen

The leaning more to the waterways for survival puts a new aspect on surviving the apocalypse. Makes it different. Already ordered the second in the series. Like the military edges to the survivors too.

A Warrior In A Kayak

Joseph Morton does a great job narrating this book by what is a new author for me, Scott B. Williams.

Eric Branson is a warrior, a former Navy seal turned security contractor, who spends a significant portion of his life fighting other people's wars. This of course causes the loss of his marriage. He has been fighting terrorists hoping to forestall any such thing happening in the USA. However, now it has and Eric wants to use his skillset to insure the safety of his remarried ex-wife Shawna, now college aged daughter Meghan and his boat repairing father Bart. He has some fellow warriors drop him off inside the country with a black military kayak, food, supplies and of course some specific gear to help him protect himself and them. Along the way he meets Jonathan, who is a young man living alone that Eric begins to mentor. Lots of boating info which I basically have zero working knowledge of keeps it interesting because I really love learning about new things. I already got book 2 Insurrection, so I'm going to get started on it.

Great story

I love boats. I love prepped fiction.
great mashup.
I didn't enjoy the reader very much, but, for me anyway, the story shone through.
