Publisher's summary

When Jessica volunteered as tribute to a sorcerer's court, she knew that sex would be part of her job. However, she did not expect Lord Azrael to “feed” her to his pet incubus on her first day at work. She’s shocked that the incubus - a shape-shifting panther - can take the form of a man. She’s shocked that they have an audience. She’s even more shocked that she likes it. When the show is over, Jessica is sent off to new adventures, but she can’t stop thinking about him.

Mal, the incubus, can’t stop thinking about Jessica, either. Their liaison has revealed secrets about her - secrets that even Jessica doesn’t know. Mal will stop at nothing to escape from Azrael and kill him. He thinks he may be able to use Jessica to do it. However, he is rapidly developing feelings for her that he doesn’t understand. Even his relationship with Azrael is changing.

Can an incubus fall in love? And what will happen when he is forced to choose between love and revenge?

I fell in love with the enchanted library

This is an honest review in exchange for a free (audio)book!

This is possibly the first erotic romance I’ve ever read. I do NOT think I'm the target audience for your average erotic romance.
I do not mind romance, but I’ve never sought out the genre and I had a hard time picturing a novel where tons of sex would ever be interesting OR plot relevant.

I was pleasantly surprised!

While the protagonist is in her twenties and there is copious amounts of sex. The tone and plot is reminiscent of a YA fantasy novel.
This is not helped by the protagonist’s bubbly and innocent personality. Some people might find this strange, but I didn’t mind.

It’s not a long book, but it’s packed with worldbuilding and interesting concepts.
The way magic, magicians, artifacts and demons are treated shows that the author has spent a fair amount of time and energy into creating a believable universe for this series.

The plot is somewhat predictable, but has a few twists and turns that keeps the reader engaged.
This is a strongly character driven book, and I do feel the chartacter development makes up for whatever the plot itself lacks.

Had this been a stand-alone novel, I would not have rated it so highly. But as the first book in a series, I feel it does a great job at easing you into this world.
I have since bought and read the rest of the series, and they all kept me engaged and wanting more.

My absolute favorite parts of this book where every scene in the enchanted library. Going on a date in a storybook pocket world sounds like a really good time.

I would say this series is for you if you enjoy the following themes:

- Nuanced characters and strong redemption arcs.
- Queer sex and relationships. The main romance of book one is straight, but both characters exhibit attraction to the same sex. The rest of the series also sets out to develop a MMF triad.
- Polyamory and/or polysexuality. This series has a lot of free love.
- Xenophilia. Several of the main and supporting characters are only half-human, at best.

If you find any of these themes offensive, you have been warned!

Sensual, erotic, sex, fantasy and magic! OMG! WOW!

Totally surprised but I fell in love with this book although I've never read romance... However, after listening to several chapters posted to her Patron feed, I was HOOKED and as soon as Audible got it, I grabbed it!

I've read/listened to all of Abby's fantasy books as she is an amazing author, creates an ongoing and ever expanding captivating world with characters I've come to love. I'm NEVER disappointed, except for waiting for the next book...

Having never read an erotic sex laden book before and had dismissed this new adventure of hers but oh my! Was I in for a surprise! This journey she is creating is a non stop BLAST! And wow does she do sex well! And Magic... And plot... And characters!

I can see her rapidly becoming a a rising star in this genre and her ability to add her fantasy magical chops is huge!

The ultimate high five was finding myself already aching for the next book to show up when I was only part way through the fourth chapter!

Expectedly intriguing plot.

I have been reading this author since highschool, and she introduced me to worlds I never dreamed of expirancing. So, when she came out with a story in a genre that I had limited expirance with, I jumped at it.

I wasn't disappointed.

I have read romance and erotica in the past, though not much, and the biggest problem I had with it is that the characters were flat and the same from book to book. not to mention the plots usually fell so hard on their faces that it sometimes read more like a caricature of itself.

This story did none of that. The characters are sympathetic, complex and memorable. the plot comes out of nowhere and hits you like a very pleasant brick to the face. I loved it.

If you just kinda like romance, but have been scorned by its monotony in the past, this may be a book for you!

10/10, like always Lee.

A delightful romp in fantasy romance erotica...

I’m not an avid romance reader, but I have read my fair share of erotica. This is what I consider a great blend of the two. Add that with a fantasy backdrop…sold.

What I’ve always liked about Lee’s writing (under another name), was her attention to character development. They are complex and deep. I have time to get to know the characters for who they are and not just how good they are in bed…so to speak. This book doesn’t just focus on romance or even sex for that matter (although there IS quite a bit of sex), but there is a sense of adventure, a bit of magic, some politics, and a helping of playfulness that was unexpected. The sex had a purpose and wasn’t just tossed in to make the romance “steamier.” It moved the story along.

I liked how magic and technology was handled in this story. The magic system was well thought out (and that’s important to me). I didn’t have difficulty imagining this world and becoming immersed in it. I was a beta reader for this novel, but I must say, Lauren Harris’s performance MADE the book for me. Her narration is exceptional and really brought the story alive for me. I’d pretty much listen to anything read by this person at this point…and there aren’t too many narrators I would say that about.

Raised my standards for erotica and romance

Would you consider the audio edition of Incubus Caged to be better than the print version?

I can't answer this, because I am legally blind and do not read the print editions anymore. But I can tell you that the narrator is outstanding. She infuses every sensual, playful, dramatic word with emotion and life. I can't think about any of the characters without hearing her version of their voices in my head.

What other book might you compare Incubus Caged to and why?

Honestly, this book is different than my usual fare. But I might direct you to some of Gail Carriger's more adult-oriented books. One of the things I really love about this book is the way it frames consent, and you get some of that from Gail Carriger and G. L. Carriger. You also get that from erotica author Nobilis Reed, and at least some from S. A. Huchton, Starla Hutchton, Chris Lester, and Lauren Harris's own writing. Compare this to authors like Kresley Cole, whose writing is dramatic and interesting, but whose use of consent is...problematic at times.

Which scene was your favorite?

In my honest opinion it is not possible to pick a favorite scene, though I did especially enjoy Jessica with her first conquest before things went...awry. And I love her interactions with Todd in general. Also, this author knows how to end books on a giggle-squee note.

Any additional comments?

I like dominance games in my erotica, but a lot of the time authors neglect the concept of consent and negotiation in those scenes. Sure, no one wants to sit there and read five pages of painstaking negotiations. But assumed consent isn't great either. Lee does a really great job of keeping up the seductive pressure and making the concept of asking for consent extraordinarily sexy. There's a lovely place where our incubus asks his lover/prey if she would mind terribly if he tore off her clothes, for instance. Too often we have torn clothes without that request, and while that can be hot, it can also be like "Um, those were my ONLY clothes here...." or "Do you have any idea HOW MUCH that bra cost?" Things like that can pull me out of a hot scene. Lee's treatment held my attention MUCH better. Hey, look! You can have a hero who is sexy AND likeable as a person!

Enjoyable

An alternate-world erotic fantasy with compelling characters; I don't want to say any more lest I spoil something! It is well narrated; I rarely enjoy listening to erotic scenes, but Lauren's reading does them justice. I look forward to book two!

First Ever Erotic Fiction

What did you love best about Incubus Caged?

I loved the story that surrounded and strengthened the erotic scenes. I felt that the two things had a way of perfectly balancing each other.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Incubus Caged?

This is difficult to explain without spoilers so I'll just say the ending.

Which character – as performed by Lauren Harris – was your favorite?

Azrael - he has many different aspects of his personality that get put on display and Lauren performed them all very well.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes.

Any additional comments?

This book was my first ever erotic fiction/fantasy. I've read books with erotic moments in them but not like this. I decided to give the book a try because I love her other works and I certainly did not regret it. I loved the book feeling like there was a good balance of the steamy erotic scenes but had a strong backbone of an interesting story tying it all together. I must admit I was skeptical because "romance novels" come with quite the stigma but after hearing this one, I will definitely get the rest. And my mind is more open to try reading other erotic/romance type novels.

It had a fantastic story, compelling characters, enjoyable sex scenes and I couldn't have enjoyed it more.

A wonderful romantic adventure

Would you consider the audio edition of Incubus Caged to be better than the print version?

The performance by Lauren Harris is wonderful and does a great job capturing all the feeling of the book. It is purely a matter of how you prefer to consume your fiction whether you prefer the audiobook or the print version.

Have you listened to any of Lauren Harris’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have enjoyed all of Lauren Harris's narration, and this one definitely lives up to her high standards of performance.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. This is so engaging, it is hard to stop once you start.

Any additional comments?

This is a very engaging, exciting, sexy, romantic book. It has a great story that draws you in and keeps you interested even between the varied sex scenes. Highly recommended.
