Publisher's summary

Love is a difficult thing to find when you have superpowers.

Captain Jamie Callahan got a new lease on life when he survived a chemical attack that turned him into a metahuman. Now he leads Alpha Team, the Metahuman Defense Force’s top strike group, a position that puts him at odds with his elite political family. Determined to do his duty, Jamie’s commitment to his team creates a loneliness that is increasingly difficult to ignore.

Staff Sergeant Kyle Brannigan is a sniper with secrets. Seconded to Alpha Team, he finds himself torn between his desire for Jamie and his desperate need to fly under the radar. But Jamie is everything Kyle wants, and Kyle is everything Jamie’s family doesn’t approve of. Defying regulations to be together risks a passionate affair turning into a scandal that could cost more than just their careers. When a mission goes south and betrayal puts Alpha Team in jeopardy, Jamie and Kyle must choose between doing their duty and giving up each other.

Great start!

I love the world building and the huge supporting cast in this story. It reminded me a little of the Thirds series (or what I read of it), but I DNF-Ed the first book of that series and I’ve found this series to be much more what I wanted out of that one. There were a few too many over long sex scenes, which is why it’s four stars to me over five, but I still really loved the story and will be continuing on.

Amazing listen!

Loved the story and the characters. High action, with plenty of humor and romance made it hard to take my headphones off. Fantastic narrator too, he had unique voices and accents for each character and put so much emotion into his performance. I received a free review copy of this audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.

A Damn Fine Series! Sooooo Good!

First, let me say I only buy Audible books I think I'll listen to over and over. Recently, I've been seeing this one advertised again, so I decided to listen to the full series again. I'd been away from Audible for a while and when I decided to renew my membership I think this was one of my first purchases. I'd read all of the Kindle books in the series, so I knew the story was a solid purchase and decided to give it a listen. I poked around on Audible checking out narrators and came up with a list of narrators I liked. (I have to admit to feeling sheepish when I heard Greg Tremblay and thought "wow, this guy sounds just like Greg Boudreaux" but I soon wised up.) The man wields a range of voices that is amazing, and he pulls you into the stories with a smooth and emotional flow that brings the characters to life.

I have listened to some really bad narrators over the years, reading in a monotone voice, no emotion and no differentiation between the various characters, so I know good from bad. Even though I had already read and listened to In the Requiem several times, so I knew what was coming, Greg's reading still brought me to tears

Seriously, my favorite series' are Metahuman Files and Soulbound, both by Hailey Turner. (BTW, Gary Furlong does a great narration of Soulbound.) The books should be read in order, as the original plot doesn't complete until book 5, In the Requiem. Book 6 is Liam's status after the events of book 5, and the three Metahuman Files: Classified books expand on Trevor's side story, and add more details to events surrounding Alexei and Sean.

Greg is awesome

And the sex in this was awesome, but that’s about it, haha. This book needed some serious character and relationship development that wasn’t in the bedroom or in military procedures.

Like an X-Men movie - only WAY $exier!!!

The action is fantastic. Good guy buried in the first few chapters of the book? Who knew that could be so amazing (I personally hate tragedies), but this story takes unusual and unexpected up a notch! The plot is engaging. The chemistry? Off the freaking charts! If you’re looking for slow burn, pass this one by- these two are incendiary from the very first moment! It’s not hearts and flowers, but it does get deeper than just casual hookup status. These two click so very well. Every time I listen to Greg Boudreaux, I am always amazed. He sounds pretty darned good as a woman, a man, French, Russian, and wow- you can literally feel the scenes unfold from the way he narrates.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

Oh. Em. Gee! My friend turned me on to this book and I immediately knew I would like it. The perfect balance of action and romance is important to me and boy oh boy does this book tick those boxes. Hot and lengthy are the men as well as the sex scenes. I can't wait to delve into book two to follow Jamie and Kyle's story. I absolutely adore them and highly recommend the audiobook 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Lots of action in and out of bed.

I love sci-fi in general but when you through in man on man action it's the best. The M4M action is not for pg-13 but it is so good.
