Lisa Jacobs Mystery: Haunting at Grand Hallows

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It had had a lot going for it. It had mystery, thriller, horror, comedy, and supernatural aspects that played very well with each other. I think this should fall into the young adult category but as an old adult I still really enjoyed it. I wouldn't call this a gory book by any means but I can see how some would, but for a horror story taking place in a morgue there could have been way more. If you grew up loving books like Nancy Drew or Hardy Boys this book will make you relive those days. Pays homage to them perfectly in a newer tone.
Character development was solid and you really get to know each person before the story really launches. Tina hands down is the star of the show even though she only has a supporting role. As you get to learn more about Lisa’s family and friends you come to really like them all, except for her deadbeat brother, and I assume everyone would be happy to hear more stories about them.
Alex did a fantastic job. Her voices were spot on for each character and I especially loved to hear her voice the twins and do her deep south accent for Ned. Her voice for the twins reminded me of Sheri Moon Zombie as Baby Firefly from Ho1Kc witch really added to the creep out factor. She did a really top notch job and I would be willing to listen to other books solely based on her being the narrator.

Welcome to Grand Hallow

I was super excited to win an Audible copy of In the Graveyard Antemortem by Stephen Stromp.

I devoured this book. I knew this was going to be one of those books I’d love right from the start. Definitely one that will be a re-listen in the future. Stephen Stromp has the perfect amount of creepy paranormal atmospheric world building to give you that eerie feeling and enough mystery/suspense to keep you guessing. Alex Ford did an amazing performance bringing life and emotions to Lisa and the rest of the quirky cast of characters. I would love to venture back to Grand Hallow and revisit Lisa on another adventure.

Nancy Drew Visits Hell House

I liked this book because it was a fun horror story. The main character reminded me of Nancy Drew but harboring a dirty secret. Without giving much away, those who like all types of horror might find this story fun. It's like listening to that longer version of a short story but explains the mysteries.

Very Enjoyable Mystery/Horror

My favorite part of 'In the Graveyard Antemortem' was that the protagonist of this story was a badass, take-no-nonsense teenage girl. This story wasn't about this girl having a crush on a boy, or petty drama between young girls, or some sort of sexual violence against her; all of the things you'd expect to read in a horror book with a teenage girl protagonist were (awesomely) missing from this tale. This is simply a story about a girl who's father is murdered and her life is turned upside down. In her efforts to discover his killer, she unravels a whole history of greed, witchery, familial betrayal, lies and unexplained paranormal happenings. Alex Ford gives a great narrative performance and I would recommend this story to absolutely anyone who enjoys a mystery/horror story. This really is an excellent one!

Delicious fun!

A delightful paranormal coming of age story! Lisa an almost 18 year old girl discovers the grotesque body of her father and is taken in to her estranged uncles funeral home to live for the summer. Odd occurrences begin to occur at the morgue, barrels of blood, and strange characters surface. Mysteries surrounding her fathers death, other odd disappearances and the old mysterious death of her cousins stir her curiosity. Paired up with her sarcastic bff the embark on discovering family secrets and her own weird abilities. The narration was fantastic and I really enjoyed her portrayal of the characters. I hope there is more to come by both of them! I received a free review copy of this book at my request and have voluntarily left this review! Thank you!

Such a fun scary story

It took me a bit to get through this one. Normally I'd give up if I had to take big breaks in between listens, but the story was so fun, I always came back. I'd recommend it to any fans of horror. It has a great classic feel and it moves at a great pace, and the dialog and characters are realistic. To be honest Im looking forward to listening again. A great read /listen for Summer. The narrator did well, also.

NOT! a scary story

I'm not really sure how the author came up with the concepts for this one... it was like things just occurred to him as he wrote and he didn't bother to make sure it all made sense. And it was not the east bit scary. The 'villains' were ridiculous. The narration was okay.

Dead on

This is a creepy one but ads enough humor to make it a great listen. Lots of interesting characters that are built without boring the listener. I look forward to to listening again.

sigh

i was given this book for free to write an honest review. im afraid i couldnt finish this audiobook as to me, it is aimed at a teenage audience ( I'm a 45 year old male). the intonation of the narrator grated on my nerves when she was speaking in the main character's voice. maybe thats how teenagers speak?? i found the story weak and the characters unrealistic. sorry, not for me.
