Publisher's summary

A murder-for-hire gone wrong in a small Appalachian community pits a disenchanted journalist and his bitter childhood friend against a rural criminal kingpin. The duo must navigate a nostalgia-laced trail of past traumas, broken dreams, and small-town secrets to overcome the dark underbelly of their world before they are consumed by the darkness themselves.

Gripping to the satisfying end.

As a reader that grew up in the area that this book centers around the descriptions of the atmosphere is personally nostalgic. The characters seem also very familiar as the staple West Virginian folk you find an almost every community across the state.

Though at first the story seems like many others, however it quickly takes several twist and turns that are both surprising but also earned.

There’s so many different groups that I could recommend this book to but most notably anyone that has grown up or lived in West Virginia, or anyone who likes a good crime drama with an editorial twist.

I also want to note the fantastic performance from the narrator. I owned the book in print but could never get very far, not because the story was it interesting but my own issues with reading. The narrator had a way of both making the book interesting with inflection but also making every character in the book distinctive.

For a first time publish for this author on an audio platform this is an excellent piece. I hope others and give this a shot because it is definitely worth the time investment that you put in.

Good job Mike Mallow for giving us a fantastic story and hope to get more soon.

PS make this a movie!

Gripping

Mike Mallow writes about the darkness lingering in the shadows of rural West Virginia. The story line will have you pondering about the shadows looming around you as well. You will be on the edge of your seat to learn more about Troy and Cabel. Must read!
