Publisher's Summary

He didn't understand loyalty until she stripped it away.

Damian Stone was a distinguished member of the NYPD, on the fast-track to an FBI career until a crime syndicate ambush cost him his partner and his ambitions. Recruited by an elite security agency that leverages his hyper-protective instincts to shield notorious trial witnesses, Damian never met a charge he couldn't safeguard.

Until her.

Alexa Volkov lived a privileged life, far from the messy underbelly of her father's Russian mafia. As a crime boss daughter, she is in a unique position to collapse the organization from the inside out. Her plan to testify against the mob patriarch puts a bounty on her head that would tempt even the most trustworthy cop - especially one hell-bent on punishing her for the sins of her father.

But the safe house part of Damian's protection plan is anything but safe. In a place where alliances are not what they seem and the most dangerous heat bearing down on them is the forbidden burn of seduction, the only thing more at risk than life is a lethal hit to the heart.

Absolutely live it!

The book was amazing to begin with, but adding the narration to it where I had a voice to go with the video playing in my head was amazing. I cannot wait for more from author and narrator.

I really enjoyed this book! It has lots of twists and turns in the story and very wild action.

Average

This is just an average story. A bit juvenile at times. The narrator has the right voice to be a good professional but he needs work. He gets overly dramatic and becomes monotone.

So so...

Did not care for the narrator's cadence. The story was ok but I really couldn't get into it due to the narrator.

Not bad

As a man with his back ground, Damian did several unacceptable things. Obviously he wasn't sitting so he could see the door in the restaurant if the guy coming to pick them up startled him. Also, if he didn't trust the man, he would have never taken his charge with him to that house- much less have had sex there. He also would never have left the h at the safe house totally alone while he took a three mile run. Story line was good , but too many wrong actions by the H.

Pure garbage and filth

Not for children or any people of faith. Violence and sex is the theme built on what I thought was a private defective series.

Barely OK for me..

This could have been better if Damian and Alexa would have stopped thinking of sex for a minute. Jeez! And Alexa’s reasoning for testifying against her father was so stupid. She wanted him in prison so he’d be safe. Seriously? It had nothing to do with him being the head of the Russian crime family or all the people he killed? She just wanted him in prison so he wouldn’t be killed on the streets. Good grief, I know the author could have come up with a better storyline than that. And, of course, Damian hated her father because of a shoot-out with his men caused is partner’s death. So, therefore, he hates her, he just can’t stop lusting after her. At no time during the book did I feel any kind of love between them. Not even when she said I love you, just before she slammed his head against the steering wheel and knocked him unconscious.

Overall, the last two chapters were the best. I was totally surprised at who the bad guy was, I mean, other than her father. And even though I also bought the second book is this series I don’t think I’ll be reading it for a while. They’re just too lame-y until the very end of the story. Only 194 pages and I skimmed a lot, so that tells you something.

There was explicit sex in this AND lots of lust and lots of thoughts and not enough action. There was a chance at a good book here if the author would have divided the sexy stuff and the mob stuff evenly but she was interested in the sex mostly.

The F-bomb was used 8 times.

As to the narration: I don’t even know what to say. Michael Pauley narrated a couple of books I listened to in 2017 and he was great BUT in this one (2016) he was just terrible. His voices for the men and women were fine but he read so weird. Kind of like William Shatner (James T. Kirk.) He put so many pauses at the end of his sentences and all the wrong emotions. I’m certainly glad he got better.

Heat filled Enemies to Lovers romantic suspense

In Safe Hands is Book One of the Safe House series and is Narrated by Michael Pauley.

This is a story about loss, betrayal and a forbidden attraction so hot it could melt an ice cap. I nearly didn't buy this book because of previous reviews but I am so glad I did.

I for one actually loved the snarky commentary and had no issue with the fact that Michael did not try and sound like a woman. I liked that it felt more like I was listening to his private thoughts. To me this was no different to reading any book told from one person's POV.

Damian Stone is a sexy retired NYPD cop tasked with bodyguarding distractingly beautiful Alexa Volkov. A woman he is sworn to protect, does not like and can't trust but wants like no other.

What happens when this strong, fiercely loyal man butt's heads with a playful mafia daughter out to seduce him. The daughter of the one man on earth he has vowed to destroy makes for an intriguing and steamy romantic suspense. The heat generated between these two protagonists was nearly enough to set my kindle on fire.

There is lots of snark, back and forth banter and sexual innuendo but not a lot of actual physical sex between our two heroes. However when it comes part way through the book it's scorching in its intensity.

The couples sexual attraction is only part of the story though. At its heart, the story is about how people deal with loss and betrayal, what true loyalty really means and whether love really can triumph over all. Can a forbidden attraction flourish in the worst possible situation whilst running for your life? Of course it can but to get there is one hell of a ride.

In a place where nowhere is safe and nothing and no one is what it seems the most dangerous threat is not to their lives but to their hearts.

Friendships are tested, oaths are broken and rules thrown out the window before Damien and Alexa get their HEA..

I will certainly be getting more books written by the author as well as narrated by Michael Pauley regardless of the reviews which are after all only one person's perspective.

IMO I believe that adult readers who like a good suspense thriller with heat will enjoy this book but if you are looking for a Pullitzer prize winner then this book is not for you.
