Loved this!

Narration was great! Her voice changed for the different characters! Narrator made story more interesting. Loved story line, not too preachy, not too sappy. Looking forward to next in series!

In Places Hidden

This was a different Narrator than I was used to. Took a bit to settle in with, but it did not take too long,
The three girls took a bit to get settled in to their living arrangements, but looking for the long lost brother of one was a very main mission of her. Needing jobs was another task to search out and this did happen in a Chocolate Factory. No one had ever done this kind of work as it is very tedious concentration getting things just right in every box. This boss was not an easy man to work for.

Loved the story, narration was far from my favorite

I’m glad I stuck it out because the story was amazing but the narrator almost made me miss out on it. It may be just me, and I can only imagine how much work and time it must take to narrate one of these stories, but I really was not a fan of this narrator and her narration. For me it was very discordant and had to be endured instead of enjoyed... sorry. 😬

One of my Favorite Audiobooks by Tracie Peterson

What a great start to this new Golden Gate Secrets series by one of my favorite authors, Tracie Peterson! And I've listened to many of her audiobooks (she has over 100 books released!) but this is one of my favorites. The narrator did a wonderful job of bringing the story to life. I disagree with the other reviewer who didn't care for the narration. I was amazed by Angela Lin's ability to manage all the different accents and voices. Can't wait to listen to the next book in this series!

a great read!

loved this book, couldn't walk away from it. I even learned more history of life in San Francisco with the prejudices against the Irish and Chinese, not to mention shanghai in the old days.

Equality and Education vs Compassion and Wisdom

Even in the early 1900s, San Francisco was a wild and corrupt city . . . a city that I still love, but one that you must visit with eyes wide open, knowing what to expect . . . so when university educated, Camri Coulter travels west to search for her missing brother, her high ideals do not quite prepare her for what lie ahead . . . picking up two friends along the way, she meets Judith and Kenzie, who both also have their own mysteries to solve. Back east, Camriann Coulter had a well paying job worthy of her social standing and education, but in San Francisco, she's forced to take work wherever she can find it . . . which turns out to be a chocolate factory. She and her friends pool their resources to try and find Caleb, Camri's missing brother, and it soon becomes apparent that he was involved in something that may have gotten him kidnapped or killed. One of the things that I most appreciated in the story is that Camri comes up against different ideas than her own highly held beliefs: that women's equality and education are the most important and therefore to be sought by all women. When her friend indicates that her highest goal is marriage and a family, Camri is at first appalled. But then she comes to face to face with her own prejudice and pride. Little by little, Camri learns to value the choices that her friend and other classes of people value, and she learns much as they seek to find her brother, Caleb. The dance halls, brothels and places that immigrant peoples in San Francisco are forced to live and work begin to show Camri what a privileged life she has led. God created men and women equal, but DIFFERENT for a reason. And it's also scary that this is the beginning of the roots of feminism . . . to know that we have come to the place that we are in America today is heartbreaking . . . the story is well written, conclusion is satisfying . . . looking forward to the next in the series
