Publisher's summary

Life is short. Jimmy's life may prove shorter. His gang mates have grown up and shipped out, and the nine to five is grinding Jimmy into a person he no longer recognizes. There has to be more to existence than waking up every Saturday with a half-eaten kebab and empty wallet. The wide blue skies of America sing a siren's song, and Jimmy decides he's ready to give life a do-over - even if it means leaving his childhood sweetheart Kelly behind. But Harlem has chewed up many a finer man, and drugs, power and money are fickle friends. If he survives the looming shit storm, Jimmy might just learn that the answers he seeks are waiting to be found in the most unexpected places.

Dark humour with a twist.

Any additional comments?

It's rare for a book to take off and maintain altitude. This book does exactly that. It doesn't let up. Great characters, good snappy dialogue with a variety of accents. Easy to follow and a wonderful captivating story. I listened on long haul to Asia..made the trip go easy.

Absolutely riveting, loved this start to finish!

What made the experience of listening to In Defense of Jimmy Bramble the most enjoyable?

Personally, the most enjoyable part of listening to this book was the way the book was written - The language used was engaging and always left me wanting more! I also feel that the narrator did a good job. His performance was excellent and was always appropriate to the tone, which is something a lot of narrators seem to fall short with.

What was one of the most memorable moments of In Defense of Jimmy Bramble?

There were multiple memorable moments in this book for me - There were a number of twists which always caught me off guard and were never at all predictable which a lot of twists fail to accomplish. Personally, I found these incredibly memorable as they were always a shock!

What about David Magowan’s performance did you like?

I feel that the narrator's tone was excellent and always matched the atmosphere of the book. He was incredibly engaging and made me feel welcome when listening to the book. He also paces his voice very well and doesn't rush through or let himself slump when narrating, which is a massive plus!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Personally, I found a number of Jimmy's decisions to be quite moving - choosing to leave his childhood sweetheart behind was quite an emotional moment for me. I also found some of the moments where Jimmy felt lost in life to be quite relatable and relevant to me!

Any additional comments?

I fully recommend this book to anyone, whether they're a fan of the genre or not - It's an excellent read from start to finish and is thoroughly compelling!
