Several children are missing from neighboring towns and villages in Monroe County. Now a youngster from Monroetown has vanished, and Amy, Reece Donnelly’s niece, is in danger, too. Worsening matters, Reece struggles to make ends meet and is close to losing everything from her apartment to her car. She balances her photography business with working a new job at a local bakery, but it still isn’t enough to pay the bills. How can she protect her niece if she can’t even keep a roof over their heads? Also, Katrina, her friend, has severed all ties with her. Reece has no idea what she’s done to hurt her, nor will Katrina even talk to her about it.

Reece discovers her stolen locket and a child’s stuffed elephant out in a field, followed by freeing an intelligent crow from a barbed-wire fence. These three occurrences propel her into a battle with a fiery sun god, one that demands human sacrifice. Can Reece protect herself and Amy from the wrath of the Golden Ascendance Assembly?
