Story
Adam is on vacation in an island paradise, with nothing to do and plenty of time to do nothing. It's exactly what he needed: beautiful weather, beautiful girlfriend, plenty of books to read, and alcohol to drink. Most importantly, either nobody on the island knows who he is, or, nobody cares. Nothing last forever, though, and that includes the opportunity to do nothing. One day, unwelcome visitors arrive in secret, with impossible knowledge of impossible events, and then the impossible things arrive: a new species.

Story
A disease threatening the lives of everyone - human and nonhuman - has been loosed upon the world by an archenemy Adam didn’t even know he had. That’s just the first of his problems. Adam’s also in jail, facing multiple counts of murder, at least a few of which are accurate. He may never see the inside of a courtroom because there remains a bounty on his head - put there by the aforementioned archenemy - that someone is bound to try to collect while he’s stuck behind bars.

Dib is an Earthlike planet, only slightly smaller, with shorter days and longer years, in orbit around twin suns. On the continent of Geo, in the city of Velon in the nation of Inimata, a man lies dead in his study. In life, Professor Orno Linus was a world-class scholar: an astrophysicist, a dead-language linguist, and an expert in (and apparent true believer of) the religious concept of the Cull, i.e., the end of the world. Widely respected, nothing about Linus’s expertise suggests somebody might want him dead.

Corrigan Bain was retired. It wasn’t something he ever thought he’d be able to do. The problem was that the job he wanted to retire from wasn’t actually a job at all: Nobody paid him to do it, and nobody else did it. With very few exceptions, nobody even knew he was doing it. Corrigan called himself a fixer, because he fixed accidents that were about to happen. It was complicated and unrewarding, and even though doing it right meant saving someone, he didn’t enjoy it.

When a spaceship landed in an open field in the quiet mill town of Sorrow Falls, Massachusetts, everyone realized humankind was not alone in the universe. With that realization everyone freaked out for a little while. Or almost everyone. The residents of Sorrow Falls took the news pretty well. This could have been due to a certain local quality of unflappability, or it could have been that in three years the ship did exactly nothing other than sit quietly in that field, and nobody understood the full extent of this nothing the ship was doing better than the people who lived right next door.

Civil war looms in the Bobiverse in this brand-new, epic-length adventure by Audible number one best seller Dennis E. Taylor. More than a hundred years ago, Bender set out for the stars and was never heard from again. There has been no trace of him despite numerous searches by his clone-mates. Now Bob is determined to organize an expedition to learn Bender’s fate - whatever the cost. But nothing is ever simple in the Bobiverse. Bob’s descendants are out to the 24th generation now, and replicative drift has produced individuals who can barely be considered Bobs anymore.

For Meredith Gale, ending her life seems like her only choice, and that choice is the reason she’s dangling by her fingertips from a bridge high above the freezing water of the San Francisco Bay. But someone or some thing has other plans for Meredith, and as her fingers slip from the cold steel of the bridge, a disembodied voice asks her a simple question: “Candidate 13: Do you wish to be saved?” Realizing her mistake too late, Meredith screams “Yes!” and instantly finds herself transported to a mysterious island, alongside hundreds of other Candidates like her.

Publisher's Summary
In his very long life, Adam had encountered only one person who seemed to share his longevity: the mysterious red-haired woman. She appeared throughout history, usually from a distance, nearly always vanishing before he could speak to her.
In his last encounter, she actually did vanish - into thin air, right in front of him. The question was how did she do it? To answer, Adam will have to complete a quest he gave up on 1,000 years earlier, for an object that may no longer exist.
If he can find it, he might be able to do what the red-haired woman did, and if he can do that, maybe he can find her again and ask her who she is...and why she seems to hate him.
But Adam isn't the only one who wants the red-haired woman. There are other forces at work, and after a warning from one of the few men he trusts, Adam realizes how much danger everyone is in. To save his friends and finish his quest he may be forced to bankrupt himself, call in every favor he can, and ultimately trade the one thing he'd never been able to give up before: his life.
From the author of Immortal and Hellenic Immortal comes Immortal at the Edge of the World, the breathtaking conclusion to the best-selling trilogy. Will Adam survive?

Stumbled onto an absolute find!
I have been a member of audible for 3 or 4 years and I think this is the second review I have written. That’s not to say that I haven’t enjoyed many books but more so to indicate just how much this series has grown on me as I have moved through it. To be honest, I read or rather listen as a distraction and often times lose my way in a story and set it aside, coming back to rediscover only the distraction. I wasn’t sure what I had here other than a story of elongated time and ubiquitous existence, and I certainly wasn’t thinking that, had I been reading this instead of listening, that it would be a real page turner. What gets me into to stories often times is the tone and tempo, and for me that is rarely, from story to story, consistently the same. I must be moody I guess? This series though has something and the recording is a perfect pairing of narrator and author that makes that something unquenchable. Once I was in, I was in for keeps. Carlson is brilliant, adding zest to Doucette’s characters that rarely need a little fleshing out but somehow he makes a speedy story into a flowing 4 dimensional humor fest full of color, blending the immediate with the subtle, making time and content the origami of words. Brilliantly written. Fabulously brought to life. Hard to put down. If you find this, you are immensely lucky.

I Hated That It's Over!
Who was your favorite character and why?
Adam. I just enjoyed his casual manner.
Have you listened to any of Steve Carlson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
The first book that I listed to by Steve was The Spaceship Next Door and while I enjoyed that book very much I thought his performance was mediocre. However, after listening to the three Immortal series I came away with a much better impression of Steve and his performance. It changed my opinion if his narration for the better. I think he did a great job on this series.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
A very casual listen / read with humor. The stories were light but the characters were fantastic. My only extreme reaction was finding out that the fourth book of the series was not available on Audible.
Any additional comments?

Love this series, book 3 is just as good as first 2!
I love the immortal series for a few reasons. The main character is a blast. The author does what most cannot, Gene Doucette is able to progress the story without making the characters make stupid choices and they have realistic responses to unrealistic situations. I appreciate this more than most in a story! What a great take on the urban fantasy genre!! Also check out the spaceship next door by Gene Doucette loved that book as well!

A masterpiece
I have listened to the first five books in the series and I loved them all. I can't say enough about how much I enjoy them. But I have neglected in my other reviews to give the narrator his due. A good narrator can really make a story come alive and make feel as if you were there. The narrator of this series is Steve Carlson and he is just that kind of person. He is absolutely one of the best.
