Publisher's summary

Summer, 2059. A man wearing a cape and a top hat approaches a prostitute on a dark, New York City street. Minutes later, the woman is dead. Left at the scene is a letter addressed to Lieutenant Eve Dallas, inviting her to play his game and unveil his identity. He signs it, "Jack."

Now Dallas is in pursuit of a murderer who knows as much about the history of serial killers as she does. He has studied the most notorious and the most vicious slayings in modern times. But he also wants to make his own mark. And he has chosen his victim: Eve Dallas. And all Eve knows is that he plans to mimic the most infamous murderers of all - starting with Jack the Ripper.

Crack another case with Eve Dallas.

Just keeps getting better!

5 Stars! J.D. Robb does it again. Seventeen books in and this series is still going strong!! It never gets old for me and it just keeps getting better. Roarke and Eve are so comfortable in their relationship, it makes me smile. I love the way they tease each other, Eve comes off as so aloof and annoyed, all the while loving it when Roarke irks her into submission. The passion and desire they have for each other gives me the warm fuzzies. On this particular case Eve brings Roarke on board as a consultant and whenever that happens it just adds a little extra to the read. The more Roarke...the better. Along for the ride are the crazy love birds, Peabody and McNab, Eve's rock...Feeney, and the lovely Dr. Mira. All that and another amazing plot, with a psychotic killer, tense moments, as Eve whittles away at the clues to find justice for the victims!!

Susan Erickson is phenomenal as the book's narrator. She nails the voice for each character, and injects the right emotion and inflection, making an already thrilling read...EVEN BETTER!!

definitely remains true to the series. great read and awesome case to hear get solved. Erickson does another great job narrating and keeping the voices the same helps the listener feel as if they know each character personally.

Brillance Once Again

Another winner in the series. A great delving into the personality of Lt Eve Dallas and her very troubled childhood. Susan Erickson is that character.

As always a good story. Ending seemed a bit anticlimactic for me!

The books in the In Death series are always a good guilty pleasure read. Thus one is no exception. Good story, great characters, etc. the only problem I had was the ending was a bit weak for me. But every ending can't be the same or else hat gets boring as well. Great read overall!

A plethora of serial killers in one man

Imitation in Death is typical of the JD Robb In Death series, but she hasn't disappointed me yet. Her killer this time pays homage to a variety of serial killers like Jack the Ripper--& leaves taunting notes for Lt. Eve Dallas with each corpse, each killed in the manner of a specific serial killer.
Her characters make the book--Peabody especially. Susan Ericksen knows these characters and perfectly projects their personalities with her voice. Aside from the murder & mayhem & some really hot sex scenes, the books are just fun.

evil imitation

A perp imitating serial killers pits himself against Dallas.
Peabody signs a lease with MacNab in Eve’s old building and takes the Detective test.
Meanwhile, Roarke has mixed results with an Ultra Mega grill following a BBQ at the Mira’s.
My favorite quote is from Eve to Nadine: ”bring the donuts; leave the camera”.
Ericksen does a great job of narration.

this is a hard one for eve. She comes up against a really nasty killer and it takes everything she has to take him down and still learn how to be comfortable with her growing circle. love her!!
