Intensely Dark - Not for the Faint of Heart

I’m Not Your Slave by Eric Reese is not what I usually listen in audiobooks. World events have caused this reviewer to reflect and move more out of my comfort zone. This audiobook does that in great and graphic detail. This book is about Imtiyaaz, a young girl who just graduated from high school.

Imtiyaaz has a strained relationship with her father, as well as her wish to break out and live a fulfilled meaningful life. She wants more than a job as a waitress at a shop. She desires a college education. The only way that can happen is taking work out of the country. Applying online she finally finds an employer that will hire a young woman with her minimal skill set in Dubai. She is warned by many people but her naivety in the way the world works sends her into the world of human trafficking and sexual exploitation.

This audiobook does a good job of holding the listener’s attention. That said this is not a book for all ages or all subgroups of listener’s. This has the potential to trigger some people due to the content and the material in the scenes in the audiobook. The publisher’s summary does not really cover the sensitive content that is found in later parts of the audiobook. The human trafficking, sexual exploitation of women, rape, assault, and suicide attempts are all parts of a very graphic narrative of real-world types of events. The book is well paced and moves quickly near the end.

The narration was provided by Sangita Chauhan. This is the first audio performance that I have heard from Ms. Chauhan. I greatly enjoyed the way she developed the characters in this short audio performance. Ms. Chauhan gave Imtiyaaz a great voice that made her very real to life as she went from excited and ready for a new life to what happens as that new life unfolds and is not what she expects. The production value was also very good on this short audiobook. Eric Reese provided the Publishing of this audiobook. This was a clear and crisp production and of good value for the listener.

Heartbreaking Story

Exploitation, lies, chances for a new life.... These are some of the things that sex traffickers use take advantage of young unsuspecting women. The way the author describes the scenes, details, and Imtiyaaz’s feelings (the main character) really makes it believable. This is an interesting and eye-opening read. The narrator also does a great job.

Shocking women trafficking and exploitation

I'm Not Your Slave
By Eric Reese
Narrated by: Sangita Chauhan
Length: 1 hr and 35 mins

This book is about Imtiyaaz, young girl who just graduated from high school and her search for work. Listen to book to know what happened. This is not what I usually listen, so some parts were pretty shocking. The book is full of intrigue, danger, insecurity, naivety, female difficulties, human trafficking and women exploitation. The world can be a dangerous place for young naive unprotected women. Some scenes might not be appropriate for minors or sensitive people. Eric wrote this book in the interesting and engaging way for the listener. His books often deal with peoples lives, difficulties and struggles of immigrants. If you like these thematics and can relate in any way you will find this book interesting. Sangita Chauhan did a good job as narrator, provided good voice and tempo.

My hope is that this review helps in your decision to obtain this book :)
