Publisher's summary

Over the course of one night, two girls with two very different backgrounds must rely on each other to get through the violent race riot that has enveloped their city.

Lena has her killer style, her awesome boyfriend, and a plan. She knows she's going to make it big. Campbell, on the other hand, is just trying to keep her head down and get through the year at her new school.

When both girls attend the Friday-night football game, what neither expects is for everything to descend into sudden mass chaos. Chaos born from violence and hate. Chaos that unexpectedly throws them together.

They aren't friends. They hardly understand the other's point of view. But none of that matters when the city is up in flames, and they only have each other to rely on if they're going to survive the night.

The ladies reading this did an A+ job

the novel did a great job painting the picture of what ordinary people face in our current social unrest. it painted the picture of two very different people, seeing the world through each other's eyes, because they took the time to recognize what the other was going through, even when faced withtheir own emence pain. The ladies doing the reading on this work really brought life to the story.

What a read!!!!

Wow what a wonderful book. I laughed out loud, I cried, I was sad, and mad. Happy and reflective. This book did a wonderful job at expressing both sides of racial injustice and the fall out that it causes on society. It was not so deep thAt it was difficult to continue to read which I think was the point( I think) but Just skim the surface and left room for reflective thought. I finished it in less than 8 hours. I couldn’t stop.If you are teetering on the edge of whether to get this book Teeter no more. get the book, read the book, and then pass the book along.

Closed minds opened

I’d rate this as an excellent read for high schoolers everywhere. The ease in the verbal back and forth and delivery of an evening that equals changed and opened minds, as well as reflective thoughts. A

Good read

reminded me of those after school specials that used to come on TV that make you see past your point of view and see others

Two viewpoints moving forward understanding.

Appreciated the back and forth approach to situations that have become so familiar. Understanding at whatever level is a way forward to understand tensions in our times.

Meh

I didn't like how Campbell was more articulate than Lena especially during internal dialogs. I feel like this revealed more of the writer's views on the thought patterns of black and white people which disturbed me.

Love this audio!

The two narrators are awesome and I love the way the story switches between the two voices. I can as drawn in from the start! I listened while in the shower and in the car. My husband even enjoyed it. Bravo!

Excellent

As a white girl from California who moved to Atlanta, this book hit home. People not from the South dont fully understand the depth and breadth of racism that still exists. Black Southerners find that ignorance inconceivable. But this book illustrates how hard it can be to look beyond what people think they know. Campbell has to reckon with racist concepts she didn't know she had. Lena had to realize that white doesn't mean life is easy.

Sometimes when cultures clash violence ensues. Other times, it takes a clash of cultures to find common ground.

Great listen!

I normally listen to audiobooks when I’m cooking, walking, cleaning, or generally doing something else, so I often get distracted.

However, this book was so well-written and well-narrates that it not only kept my attention, but grabbed it and made me remain engaged 100%. I feel like this would be a great story to read, but it was even better to listen. Absolutely recommend!
