Illusion on Ice - Great romance book

Illusion on Ice is a book #7 in the Boys of Winter series and it could be read as a stand alone. I did not listen to the other books in the series but it did not affect my enjoyment of this story.

Maisie ended up in Sweden alone due to her mom's shenanigans and needs to find a way to return to USA. She meets Noel in the bar and plans to use him as her ticket home. But their relationship takes an unexpected turn and grows into something else.

Noel and Maisie are likable characters. Their interactions are full of chemistry and fun.

Avie Paige did a good job with the narration. Her voice worked really good for both characters,

Just what I needed!

There are times when I need something to rejuvenate my listening, and I can always count on SR Grey to help me out. Her writing is smart, has a great story, a lot of humor and always that warm, passion that brings me back to loving romances. This 7th book in the Boys of Winter series is a little different, taking us to the World Hockey Championships with Noel. He meets the beautiful Maisey who has been stranded in Sweden by her less than caring mother. Determined to get back to the states, she is planning to use her feminine wiles on Noel to get him to buy her a plane ticket home. But things are never that simple! What wonderful characters these two are! I love Maisey. She is not only beautiful, but a little naive in her thinking. She is unassuming, finds herself swept up in what is Noel. Noel is just a wonderful surprise. I fell for him immediately. Not only a great athlete, but he is truly beautiful on the inside. This love story is sweet, spicy and all around full of humor and good feelings. I loved it! (Not so much Maisey's mom though!)

I have never heard Avie Paige before this story and I loved her. She is passionate and has a great array of voices. I enjoyed her pacing and loved the way her voice pulled me into the story. I will be looking for more of her work!

Just okay.

It was just ok. A lot of the dialogue was extremely elementary and cheesy. I didn’t think the narrator choice was right for this audiobook. The female narrator did not voice a male character well, so it always sounded off.

The storyline itself was decent. I liked how the two main characters got to know one another and built a lovely relationship. But it got a little muddy in the middle when the heroine was booted from the country. Her reaction and how she broke the news to her boyfriend/fling was pretty dramatic and unnecessary.

The rest of the story was pretty bland. Boy tries to find girl. Girl admits she’s a liar. Boy forgives girl. Girl still puts up walls for juvenile reasons. Boy proposes and magically everything is perfect. I won’t be reading the other books in this series due to not feeling a single ounce of investment in the characters.

Received an audiobook of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

sweet story

Maisy is doubtful, insecure, felt that she was never good enough. Everyone in her life has left her. Will Noel leave her too?
What Noel had to do is convince her not to run, be strong and believe in them. I enjoyed listening to this story narrated by Avie Paige.

Sweet romance

Narrator did a good job. She changed her voice to fit the clueless tone of the female character well. She sounded professional and clear. A good listen.

Sweet romance; Noel is a really sweet guy. He wants more of a permanent thing in the romance department, and I love that! It’s so nice not to have to read about a male character’s manwhore ways. When he meets Maisie, he thinks she’s the one, but Maisie isn’t exactly being truthful. Her horrible mom strands Maisie in a foreign country, so Maisie comes up with a plan to use her feminine wiles to get a hockey player to pay her way home. She meets Noel and the two have a connection, so Maisie starts feeling bad about her deception. Maisie seems to be light in the brains department, so her POV is a bit basic, but she’s nice enough. She’s just a bit naive and should really have a job supporting herself; she’s 21. I feel if she would’ve just been honest with Noel, he would’ve helped her without her hiding truths about herself. Overall, I liked the story; a little more excitement would’ve been good and Maisie is annoying a lot, but the romance was cute.

Noel was a sweet hockey boyfriend....

This is my first book by the author. I love sports romances, especially hockey romances so I was really looking forward to this and I always love trying out a new author. The story line intrigued me from the start and I immediately found myself falling for Noel, a pro hockey star who made it clear from the start that althogh he loved hockey, he was at a point in his life that he was looking for more. Unfortunately, Maisie wasn't painted in such a good light from the beginning of the book, and although some of that can be attributed to her mother and her past and her circumstances, it was kind of hard for her to rebound from that given the choices she made both at the start of the book in how she meets Noel and also in her default coping mechanism of running away.

I did love how Noel showed how much he cared for Maisie and worked to earn her trust and I loved how he found her and wanted to take care of her. It just seemed lopsided a bit at times, though Maisie did try to make up for that somewhat at times. I would like to try and read some other books by the author.

This was my first listen by Avie Paige. It seemed like the flow of the narration of book in the beginning wasn't as smooth as it could be, but it definitely improved as the book went on, and I definitely enjoyed her narration of Noel more than Maisie, but I would definitely be interested in listening to more of her work. #AudiobookObsessionReviewer

Short, boring, predictable read

I love sports romance books so I was so excited when I got a free code to listen to this but it was a big let down. I felt like a it had the writing style of a middle schooler. It wasn't a bad read, just very bland and predictable.

overall decent book.

I liked this book it was sweet and had a HEA...BUT though the narrator had a great natural speaking voice and she did a good job on the guys voice I was not a fan of the main characters voice..the character Masie already seems to be written pretty immature but the narrator for reasons beyond my comprehension made her voice that of a little girl for most of the book. I wish the narrator just used her natural speaking voice not the high pitched whiney voice.

A Great Hockey Romance

I love hockey romances! This is my first audiobook from Avie Paige and this is a solo narration where she narrates the full story in both male and female POV. This book switches every other chapter in the Hero and Heroine's POV. I liked her voice for the male characters more than I liked her voice for the heroine, Maisie. At times, it seemed like the heroine's voice was a bit on the whiney side, but overall, the narration was done well. As for the storyline, I really like Noel and him as the hero! I couldn't understand Maisie's struggle with her mother, but it also seemed real because it's very human to keep believing and hoping someone will change. I haven't caught up with the full storyline in this series, I've only read the very first book. However, it wasn't needed in order to read this book, which is seventh in the series. It did peak my interest in the rest of the series though and finding out how everyone else's stories pan out and also what happens with Noel's twin sister and if she gets her own HEA!

Love it so much

Maisie and Noel story was fantastic, I love how they meet and how everything developed between them. She was stranded in Sweden and he was a hockey star in disguise, they both fell in love while traveling but when reality comes back they both struggle to find their way to be together again. Fantastic story and the audiobook is so good. Avie Paige did a terrific job.

Opposites attract

I liked this book. For some reason it felt a little immature, not sure if it was the writing or the narration. It’s hard for a girl that comes from the trailer park to believe a rich hockey player would want to be with her. Good characters and goof narration. HEA. I recommend this book.

It’s not a Illusion of a great story

Book 7 in the series. It can be listened to as a stand alone It’s a great love story. The characters that S.R . Grey wrote are strong , determined and loyal . Nothing comes easy .
Hero is Noel. Heroine Maisie.
Both Maisie and Noel meet in Sweden and it was for a purpose they both needed saving .Maisie was in a bind she needed to find a way to the USA . Her mother was heartless and just left her there with no way home . When she meet Noel , Maisie knew she found her way to the States . Noel was in Sweden for a tournament that Team USA was playing. Once Noel meets Maisie he knew it was for keeps. Only thing is once at States ground Maisie wanted to run Does Maisie leave or does Noel make her stay .

In between

It took me a bit to finish this book because I just didn’t feel connected to both characters, the hero keeps on doing so much while the heroine keeps on running and acts like a child. Don’t get me wrong it has a great story line but it’s just not with me. Avie Paige did a great job at narrating

Sweet and well narrated.

This is a very sweet story and in some places it's a little silly. Noel is almost too good to be true with how he reacts to what goes on. I did enjoy it though, it made me smile.

Avid Page narrates well.

Stand Alone

While this is the 7th book in the series, I never felt like it was referencing events from other books and characters from prior books weren't prominent in this one. It can truly be read as a stand alone.

I liked writing style and how the story started off, however I didn't like the female main character. As a result, it made the middle/end feel slow with what felt like the same issue repeated. I liked the slow build up of the relationship at the beginning and really appreciate that the whole story unfolded over the better part of a year.

The narrator did a great job making it interesting and being easy to listen to, although I wasn't a big fan of the female voice. I did appreciate that there was a definite difference in voice between characters. I'm interested in listening to/reading more of the series to see if I like the other story lines better.

Noel and Mais

I have to say that I did not like Maisie at first. The author did a great job redeeming her but I felt like she was taking advantage of the good guy. That being said, the writing was good and the narration was on point. Good story.
