Publisher's summary

"He is always working out of an inspired mission to stretch our minds, hearts, and souls toward the poor." (Fred Smith, founder of The Gathering)

For most of his life, the comfort of the American suburbs was all Gret Glyer knew. It wasn’t until he abruptly quit his job and moved to Africa that he began questioning everything he had taken for granted.

He soon learned that his private school upbringing stood in stark contrast to that of his new neighbors who lived on $1 per day. The shocking level of poverty he was exposed to inspired a brand-new model for charity that brings donors closer to the global poor.

If the Poor Were Next Door offers a radical shift in perspective through the riveting, and sometimes unbelievable, stories ignited by Glyer’s eye-opening journey to the poorest country on the planet.

absolutely heart opening story

Yes, it is a short book - but an amazing story of a young man's jouney to see beyond his comfortable upbringing, to come to know, understand, love, and support some of the poorest people in the world, treating them with respect and dignity. And then he turned his own caring and compassion into action - creating a marvelous nonprofit that not only serves people in Malawi but serves all of us by helping us see and care too - and giving us concrete ways that we can help too. Amazing and inspiring story.

Great and powerful listen

I just finished listening to Gret Glyer‘s audiobook and it was really compelling and inspiring. I love that the founder did the narration himself.

A Perspective Everyone Needs to Hear

Gret Glyer is like most of us who are probably able to listen to this book. Someone whose perspective was shaped by his middle-class, suburban up bringing. However, he now has a global perspective, and understands how rampant poverty is. He relays this perspective in a brilliant way. He's never condemning or acting holier-than-thou. What he will do is give you fresh insight and practical tips on how you can help. This book left me feeling blessed, grateful, and empowered. A great read!
