Publisher's summary

Local news reporter Avery Shaw's week is going from bad to worse.

It’s bad enough there's a dead body in the parking lot of the paper, but when the investigation into the death leads to drugs - and a tie to her own family - things continue to spiral downward. If she could focus on that, though, it would just be another normal week. Constant run-ins with both the men in her life - neither of whom seems to be showing her the level of respect she feels she deserves - are making things more stressful than they need to be.

Avery is going to get the story - even if it means taking down her own cousin. Surviving to file that story, though, that’s a whole other problem altogether.

Warning: This book is snarky and sarcastic. Listen only if you're not easily offended - and you like to laugh. This is the second book in the Avery Shaw Mystery series.

the abrupt endings are...😐

this narrator's pronunciation leaves something to be desired. sooo many mispronounced words. you'd think Someone (like an Editor maybe?!) would've caught these things, they are multiple and many. maybe im easily annoyed, but still. there it is

why is avery so abhorrent???

Avery is hard to tolerate. The more I listened, the less I found to like in this character. She's a wasted self absorbed thing. I struggled to listen because she's obnoxious beyond words and I abhorred her. Jake and Elliot need therapy and mental health evals for even considered a relationship with this lunatic. She's an empty vessel that sucks the life out of anyone descent.
I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator was good.

Mystery, Family Drama and Murder

Snarky Avery Shaw steps into another mystery that puts her life in danger when a coworker is killed at work. Family drama is ramped up another notch when she involves her cousin Lexi. The non romantic triangle between Avery, Jake and Elliot continues with me wanting to bang all there heads together. What could go wrong with Avery searching for a killer? Everything when the tides take a turn and the journalist becomes a target.
I loved the snarky sarcastic banter between the characters. The story is well written and entertaining. I like the twist and turns that go on throughout the story because it kept me guessing. I didn't suspect the actual perpetrator so that was a shock. Narrator Angel Clark is again amazing with her voices and mannerism. I highly recommend this book I can't wait to get into the next book. This is my honest unbiased review.

Loved the story. Narration over snarky.

Really love Amanda Lee books. This one was no exception. I think capturing Avery Shaw's snarky attitude would be tough. It was a bit overdone, but otherwise I truly enjoyed it.

Avery

Good chick flick for the enjoyment of a girl who is a reporter, thinks of herself, and the messes she gets into. The dialog and characters are quirky and fun, narration was enjoyable. Given audio for my voluntary review

I Won't Be Fooled Again

If I could I would give this story 2 1/2 stars. The story is actually pretty good, However the lead character is not very likable and consistently makes poor decisions. I figured out who the villain was early on but only because it was the least obvious choice. I'm not going to get the next book in the series because I know the lead character is not going to change. If you like women who are snarky, self absorbed and selfish who make bad decisions I recommend this series. The story is not bad. It's Avery's outlook on life that ruined the story for me.
