Historical Romance with a twist!

Any additional comments?

Love the story of a family with special "gifts" helping a man who's family is possibly up to no good. I enjoyed this because is wasn't too much special. Just a little extra help to help us through life, may it be forsight, vision of a pending danger or just a little know-how out of the ordinary to keep you from turning that corner where the evil person lies in wait for...is definately the type of person, er...family that I want on my side!

I truely enjoyed this one, and I'm looking forward to the rest. I will say that although I've listened to other books narrated by Ashford and had no problems at all, this one seems that she was a bit off her rythm. She's wonderful with the female parts but the male characters all seem the same and very stiff. Not much inflection on their emotions other than, stern. But I still liked the story and will listen to the rest. Maybe she'll get into the swing of things later...we'll see!

Get A Different Narrator!

I've read & listened a many books by Hannah Howell & enjoyed them, she tells a great story. I couldn't even get lost the first chapter of this book the narrator was shook bad! Absolutely NO emotion in her voice! Which is truly sad because she had a pleasant voice & her make and female voices were obvious. But besides the changes in each character's speaking voice she might as well have been reading a dry textbook. I couldn't listen to it, if I want to joke what happens I'll have to read the actual book myself

STORY: GREAT!! NARRATOR: ???

I'm a true fan of Hannah Howell and her writing talent is outstanding. So WHY Ashford MacNab??? There are so many others that would make this story so much more enjoyable. I'm sitting on the edge of a decision to-buy OR not-to-buy! Because it's a continuation and I enjoyed the story so much, I guess I'll suffer through one more and maybe...just maybe it'll be better. Ashford MacNab doesn't have the ability to successfully distinguish the voices of the characters. Many times, I had to carefully listen to the subject of conversation to be sure who was talking. I certainly don't mean this to be disrespectful, but Ashford MacNab is at the very bottom of my choice of narrators list. Tis a pity...it's truly a GREAT story!

It rank about 8... and Ashford Macnabb does such a great job you cant put the book down...

What other book might you compare If He's Wicked to and why?

I would compare Hannah Howell books to Shirlee Busbee. I fine that book writers write with adventure and excitement.

Chloe and the little boy Anthony

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes

Attack of the robot

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

The story is good, though I have not been able to finish it, as the narrator is a bit like nails on the chalkboard for me. Hannah Howell is a good writer, not too formulaic for a romance novelist. The beginning of the story draws me in, but she looses me a bit towards the middle. TBD if it gets better towards the end. I think I might have to read it instead of trying to listen to it if I want to finish it.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Leo...just, seems yummy.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

At first, I didn't think she would bother me, but she is monotone and her sentences are so clipped, she sounds like a robot. It is driving me up the wall! I figured she was no Anne Flosnic during the sample, so decided to give it a go, but how no one told her, "Hey, when you awkwardly pause after ever sentence, and give no tonality to the words you are saying, it makes me want to hit you in the face with a brick," I have no idea. Don't let the sample fool you, it gets worse.

Could you see If He's Wicked being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Not really...not that it isn't good enough, but I am not sure how Chloe or her talents would transfer...

Any additional comments?

I wish I could recommend this, as it is an intelligent book, but the narrator is awful.

Good story, so so narration.

This was a pretty good story. I really liked the heroine, she was funny, witty and smart, not the whimpering, simpering chew on bottom lip heroine. The hero was okay too, I would have liked him a bit more sexy and arrogant, but not a bad arrogant. The H and H did have some good chemistry and there are some nicely written sex scenes, not to graphic, just the right amount.

The story line and plot were very good. The villains were definitely villains! Oh my... they were bad. LOL

There as so much dialogue throughout the entire book which was fantastic. (I like lots of dialogue)

I really liked some of the secondary characters as well. Looking forward to Leopold's book for sure.

As for the narration. It was just okay. The narrator seemed so monotone and a bit robotic throughout the entire book. She really needs to put some emotion in her voice. The men sound like men which is good but still some emotion would be great.

Great story

I really liked the story, it was well written as always by Hannah Howell. The narrator was a distraction. Her man voice was flat and miserable.

Great story, terrible narrator!

I really enjoyed this story, I belong to Audible Escape and I already own the written copy of this book, and thought I'd listen too it as well. My goodness was the narrator awful. she spoke in such monotone I couldn't really yell who was speaking. The companies that arrange for.the barrators should really listen to whomever they hire before they hire them!@

Great Story...Narration Needs Work.

I listened to the sample and thought I knew what to expect of the narration but like many other reviewers have expressed, the narrator is a bit painful to listen to. There are several unnatural pauses where Ms. MacNab comes back with a very different tone & sound within the same thought or dialog. It's too bad as it really is a great story. That said, I certainly don't think that crude reviews are necessary to get one's point across. Perhaps constructive criticism is the best way to assist Ms. MacNab and, narrators in general, as they work on & improve upon their craft.

Ashton MacNab

What were they thinking? I made it 5 sentences in. Why would they hire a narrator that can not do an accent when the book is written with one intended? It is deplorable and an insult to my adoration for Hanna Howell. Who hates Hanns so much at this company that they would sabotage the success of an author by appointing such a horrable narrator to perform it? Shame on you whoever you are. I will call checkmate, and just go buy the book and read it myself. Fire who ever arranged for this narrator to perform this book.
