Publisher's summary

“At long last, even gods will know regret....”

Agnes Manteo now bears her father’s sentient Djao sword, along with a terrible revelation - the gods are charlatans, ancient sorcerers who draw their strength from the suffering of humanity. She and her Syraeic companions have but one duty: to track down those pretenders and end their reign of cruelty and lies, no matter the cost. To that end, the magical blade - mighty, single-minded Szaa’da’shaela - won’t allow any wavering of their commitment.

But the empire is in turmoil with the sudden passing of its undying queen. Noble houses clash and threaten civil war, murderous barbarians mass on the frontier in preparation for a bloody invasion, and all feel the aching void left by the clergy, whose temples were devastated by a great fire. Can the kingdom survive, should Agnes succeed in tearing away its very foundations? And if she fails, what might sorcerers with nearly godlike powers do to exact their revenge?

Idols Fall is the thrilling conclusion to the compelling Iconoclasts trilogy.

Ends Abruptly

I really really enjoyed this whole series, and will look forward to more by this author. That being said this one just up and ends with very little actual follow through, feeling almost as if they were thinking about doing a fourth book and instead just kept it to three.

More of the same from the last books, certainly very interesting, but it does lose some of what made the last 2 special. All in all a fine ending to a series.

Love this series

I found this book very entertaining and I'm excited to see what tje future holds for this author. IMHO some people take it a little too seriously when it comes to some of the references they consider political. srop looking at it from the lens if todah and hust accept not eveeything is politics. It is the world he created so hit the eaay button and stop trying to find the political Easter Eggs. Personally I didn't get the vibe I get with some other writers ( cough** Stephen King) that an agend waa being written with a story tacked on. I didnt feel the author trying to shove his ideology in my face. My only complaint is it reminded me of Game of Thrones in regards to all my favorite characters dying. Jeff don't take some of the reviews too seriously. Some of us really do love the world you created and are looking forward to your next book.. So don't take too long. Dr V

Very enjoyable

Fabulous series. 4.5 stars on story as I thought ending left too many questions and incomplete storylines. Maybe there will be 4th?

I loved the series.. well written and entertaining! but the ending left a bit to be desired and was kind of easy to see coming. Still worth the read though..

A Fantastic end

I haven't had a good fantasy trilogy for a while. Simon Vance as always, earns my respect. Mr. Schel has labored to craft high quality prose, flawed characters and fantastic pacing all wrapped up in a world filled with wonders and dangers alike. I sincerely hope he develops more takes in the Barrowlands!

Fitting End to a Great Story

Loved the first book, the second felt a bit disjointed to me but this one redeems the series. Without going off the rails into psychological mayhem, this one stays in a logical narrative form. I thought the ending was perfect and look forward to Shel's next book.

Great Series

Solid series from front to back. Great narration and excellent world building. I almost didn't pick it up due to some rough reviews but I'm glad I did.

Dark fantasy that really dives into the psychological damage that would be caused by these extraordinary events. Follows a simple formula that plays put well because it keeps the books moving toward something tangible.

From a DnD nerd

Don't read ahead spoilers: I rly don't want to spoil anything but it's bound to happen if I'm expressing my thoughts. First, I want more. I love how dark and scary the world is. Its Osr made into a book and I adore it for that. Secondly I'm not convinced everyone was shown to be necessary though were told the entire time they are. I assume the grim dungeon needed bodies to showcase the finale or this was a real DnD game and they were all characters from it? Lastly if this story WAS a real DnD campaign turned into a book then I understand where the talking sword came from and understand it's value as a GM at the table trying to keep everyone on track. But here it's a unnecessary railroad/plot device. I really hated the sword but not for anything it does but because of the lack of agency from "the players" as I saw them lol. The sword having opinions really sucks and I think all other characters suffered because of it's inclusion. Hungry and eagerly hoping for more. I hope this doesn't come off as extra critical because I did really enjoy it otherwise.
