Publisher's Summary

From YouTube star and Facebook Video sensation Laura Clery comes a collection of comedic essays in the vein of We Are Never Meeting in Real Life by Samantha Irby and You’ll Grow Out of It by Jessi Klein.

Laura Clery makes a living by sharing inappropriate comedy sketches with millions of strangers on the Internet. She writes songs about her anatomy, talks trash about her one-eyed rescue pug and sexually harasses her husband, Stephen. And it pays the bills!

Now, in her first-ever book, Laura recounts how she went from being a dangerously impulsive, broke, unemployable, suicidal, cocaine-addicted narcissist, crippled by fear and hopping from one toxic romance to the next...to a more-happy-than-not, somewhat rational, meditating, vegan yogi with good credit, a great marriage, a fantastic career and four unfortunate-looking rescue animals. Still, above all, Laura remains an amazingly talented, adorable and vulnerable, self-described...Idiot.

With her signature brand of offbeat, no-holds-barred humour, Idiot introduces you to a wildly original - and undeniably relatable - new voice.

So much more than expected

I decided to buy this audiobook, because I felt I needed a funny story to cheer me up. I mean, Laura Clery is a funny, funny woman, so the book has to be hilarious, right?
I was so right and wrong at the same time.
While her style of writing and narration had me in stitches of laughter, her history of abuse, alcoholism and drug use has shocked me to the core. Right from the beginning I thought and sometimes said out loud "Idiot, what are you doing? This won't end well"
Her struggles to come clean AND stay clean was a real eye opener on what some addicts go through, how they realise, in her case just in time, that their life is in grave danger and how they have to put themselves before anyone and after everyone if they want to stay on the right path. I'm trying not to give away too many spoilers, but if you have reached this part of the review, I would highly recommend getting the book/audiobook.
This will definitely be one of my all time favourites.
Thank you Laura for telling us your story.

An absolute must read

I already love Laura I have followed her social media for years. I got the book because I knew it would make me laugh but it turned out to be so so much more than that. I listened to the whole book in like four days. It made me feel so positive and ready to take on the world and follow my dreams no matter how dark times get. Sounds cheesy but when you need to hear that stuff cheesy doesn't matter. Thank you for sharing your story with the world Laura!

Amazing!

I was already a big fan of Laura's but after listening to this (side note: I'm really glad I opted for the audio and not the book because her performance and humor adds so much to the stories) I am an even bigger fan. She's a true inspiration and it's incredible how much she's been through to get to where she is now. A humorous, humbling tale of a self-made woman. Also, I loved how Stephen made an appearance in the audio!

Easy listening enjoyable experience 👌

I recently discovered Laura on Facebook and then saw she had a book. I was so intrigued by this woman and her husband's authenticity and honesty about they're struggles with addiction I absolutely had to give it a listen. Much more constructive, helpful and enjoyable than I expected it to be. Will be reccomending as a lighter read / listen to friends in recovery circles. Great job Laura 🤘

Loved the honesty of this book

Lots of people would rather sugar coat their past. This book was so honest and at times embarrassingly relatable. Made me feel that its completely to make mistakes when you're young. Laura is so funny it made me smile listening to her story.
