Publisher's summary

A group of 27 scientists and explorers are stranded in Antarctica.

Residing in a station known as Shackleton, they are studying the seismic activity of the region. An eruption of the nearby volcano, Mount Erebus, soon sends quakes throughout the continent with devastating results.

All radio communication has been disabled by the breakdown of the magnetic field. Evacuation is unlikely. No one knows whether they survived the icequake, and their station is now moving two kilometres north each day with the strong aftershocks. They are on their own, with limited food and resources.

Do they stay put and risk being caught in the next series of icequakes and avalanches? Or do they pack up and trek over dangerous territories to the neighbouring station?

Icequake is a gripping prophetic sci-fi disaster novel, full of excitement and danger in every chapter.

If You Like Science In Your Science Fiction

It took me a while to warm up to the idea of Antarctica as the scene for such a wildly extreme climate change disaster epic. But it turns out the catastrophes described here are perfectly possible. Even relatively likely under the circumstances, sooner or later. And that makes the cast of "ordinary" scientists unusually provocative protagonists. They are normal human beings with the usual wide variety of personal characteristics. There are no superhuman powers on display: just the ones we humans have always had to rely on in catastrophes. There are no cartoonish people here, but a very realistic and well-described variety of personalities. And I found this aspect of Icequake to be a crucially valuable contrast to the action.

I give extra credit to the unobtrusively excellent narrator. His fluidly intelligent performance makes a great difference in how this long and very complex story is seamlessly and enjoyably knit together.

Great free read! Interesting take on climate

I enjoyed this story and listened to it in 2 days. Narrator does a great job with accents and story clips along mostly. It does get technical about what the scientist are doing. Also I didn’t quite understand the quake vs the surge business. Also, a man wrote it so anything involving women stuff and romance is just silly.

Realistic Climate

Book isn’t a brain twister that you have to pay attention to or rewind. It is solid though with characters we think behave how “normal” people would in same situation. No superheroes amazing stunts intelligence enhancements, which makes it all the more believable.
It probably shows how we may all act in a world changing catastrophe that may be all too close in our future. At least in the beginning. The people are isolated in the Antarctic when it happens so no spoilers here, what would it be like back in the world?
Guess you’ll have to read it to find out.

Just terrible

Yep this is a bad one, no joy, no story, no nothing. Folk get stuck in the Antarctic, everything cracks and freezes. Wow how interesting....NOT!

A no Go for me

The book begins at a fast pace and continues at the same pace. Too much, too fast...you cant grasp the characters with non stop actions occurring. As well the narration, too loud, too fast, too much. Overall, its just a no...plain no.

Dated but not bad

Delightful look at what was at the earths last unexplored continent. The background horror show that everywhere else is suffering kept me entertained
Solid read from Tim Campbell

Very enjoyable listen the detail allowed me to see and feel the cold and to understand the desperation of their situation

I could see and feel the cold and to understand the desperation of their situation. Good listen good story line.
Let’s all hope that it never happens.

Intriguing Story

I’ve read many survival books, but this is the first of its kind that I have read. It’s a well written, intriguing story with just the right mix of the various elements of a survival story.
