Publisher's Summary

The captivating story behind the best-selling single in the history of Christian music - and the man who wrote it.

MercyMe's crossover hit, "I Can Only Imagine", has touched millions of people around the world. But few know about the pain, redemption, and healing that inspired it. Now Bart Millard, award-winning recording artist and lead singer of MercyMe, shares how his dad's transformation from abusive father to man of God sparked a divine moment in music history.

Go behind the scenes of Bart's life - and the movie based on it - to discover how God repaired a broken family, prepared Bart for ministry through music, and wrote the words on his heart that would change his life forever. I Can Only Imagine is a front-row seat to witnessing God's presence throughout Bart's life.

Whether falling in love with his childhood sweetheart or mourning his father's death, founding MercyMe or flailing in the midst of its success, Bart continues to place his trust in God's plans - plans that continue to surprise and surpass what Bart could have ever imagined.

Could not put down this book--gripping

Bart's story of his early childhood abuse was unthinkable and heart-wrenching to say the least...I cannot imagine, absolutely no pun intended. :( Thank the Lord for praying mamaws and God-called youth leaders--as Bart's nightmare life came full circle, the evidence of God's redemptive power is undeniable. God's fingerprints are all over Bart's life and the blessings--it is absolutely no coincidence. He brings beauty from our ashes, glory to Him.

Tragic life set right by the living God

God was truly at work in this man. While the devil seeks whom he might destroy, we are made over comers through Christ Jesus, which strengthens us! No matter the trial, God will bring us through.

This is a must read for all!

Thank you!

Thank you Bart, for having the courage to share your very personal story with the world. For those of us who suffered abuse as a child, you have showed that God enables victory through forgiveness, not to mention healing of ourselves and those around us. I shall be forever grateful. May God bless you!

Want to read it again!

I didn’t want it to end. I enjoyed everything about it...the story, the fact he was so real about his life, and all I learned about Jesus through his life story. It makes me want to see the movie again!

Great feel good informative book

I’ve listened to MercyMe for years, and saw the movie I Can Only Imagine prior to reading the book. I loved how the book included information that I didn’t already know and how it elaborated in things that I did know. It was a great feel good book that’s informative, interesting, and easy to follow.

Absolutely Amazing!

Thank you, Bart, for sharing your story and so much love for Jesus! This is a great audiobook. I know for certain I would never had the experience reading the words with my eyes as I did listening with my ears.

Loved this story

The story of Bart's childhood, struggles with an abusive Dad and absent mother , redemption and care for his father were so touching. Rising from such heartbreak to tell the story of Mercy Me and their successes and failures over 20 years was inspirational storytelling.

Man oh man... I was not expecting that. What an incredible story. I would encourage everyone to read it or listen to it. What a miracle story, one in which only God could truly be the author.

Amazing

I'll admit I'm a bit biased as a huge Mercy Me fan. I knew nothing of Bart's life, though, or the band. This story is amazing. Truly powerful stuff, both awesome and humble, human and spiritual. I know I'm going to play it many times more. I really recommend it to Christians and non-Christians as an intensely personal, beautiful book.
