Publisher's Summary

One secret.

Eight cryptic words.

Lifetimes of ruin.

Wayland Maynard is just eight years old when he sees his father kill himself, finds a note that reads I am not who you think I am, and is left reeling with grief and shock. Who was his father if not the loving man Wayland knew? Terrified, Wayland keeps the note a secret, but his reasons for being afraid are just beginning.

Eight years later, Wayland makes a shocking discovery and becomes certain the note is the key to unlocking a past his mother and others in his town want to keep buried.

With the help of two friends, Wayland searches for the truth. Together they uncover strange messages scribbled in his father’s old books, a sinister history behind the town’s most powerful family, and a bizarre tragedy possibly linked to Wayland’s birth. Each revelation raises more questions and deepens Wayland’s suspicions of everyone around him. Soon, he’ll regret he ever found the note, trusted his friends, or believed in such a thing as the truth.

I Am Not Who You Think I Am is an ingenious, addictive, and shattering tale of grief, obsession, and fate as eight words lead to lifetimes of ruin.

Story is meh. Steven Weber is awesome

I guessed the ending early on. It was not a great story, but Steven Weber made it enjoyable.

Very disappointing

Husband & I listen to books during long travels. After reading the description & comments, were looking forward to I Am Not Who You Think I am. It sounded intriguing. People rave about it & were on the edge of their seat. We must have missed something with this book because many times we said "ok ok, get to a point or event or whatever but stop dragging this out". We feel this book could have cut almost half out and told the whole thing. We don't see how the overuse of the "f" word attributed to this story either. Never felt on the edge of our seat or highly anticipating anything really. Every "plot twist" or reveal was odd and just pretty "out there". Totally blew a credit on this one.

Dear Steven Weber,

I absolutely LOVED this book. However, I’m not entirely sure if it’s because of the actual story or simply because Mr. Steven Weber is the best narrator of all time. If an author wants their story to be an audiobook success, just have Steven Weber read it. The man could make a Campbell Soup label sound intriguing. Steven, you are the boss.

The book itself is good. I sort of saw the end coming but hadn’t worked out all the details so it was well done. Great characters you empathized with and well written (made even better by Mr. Weber’s performance).

Not good

I did not care for this at all. The language and characters were crass and trashy.
