Publisher's summary

They won the battle. For now. But Junco lost more than she can handle to get that job done. The ancient aliens are returning to Earth and their long-awaited prophecy is about to unfold.

Lucan and his army need Junco to do her job if they have any chance of living through the ancient prophecy. They need her to follow directions and focus.

But Junco’s friends are dead - some of them at her own hand.

Her home is gone, her mind is more unstable than ever, and ghosts from the past are haunting her.

And now she finds out they’ve been lying to her? How could she ever trust anyone again?

Can a girl who was born a monster feel loyalty and love?

Or will she let them all die in the end?

The plan is to have no plan

Perhaps it’s my fault. Perhaps my feeble mind simply couldn’t wrap my head around the complexity of the series. But, having finished the entire thing, I couldn’t explain what happened in the end or why the good guys won. This omnibus containing books 4-6 lost a lot of luster from the fresh and vicious first trio. There’s much less killing, just as much swearing, and much more belaboring of Junco’s tortured life.

“It’s not okay; it’s very far from okay because I’ve been here at the edge of my sanity so many times now, it’s starting to feel like home.”
Book 4: Range: Junco continues in a never ending cycle of crazy self destruction as differing factions continue to ask her to take actions based upon blind faith in their secret plans. While it’s true she’s been subjected to the trials of Job, I felt like she spent a lot of time holding big pity parties and rashly trying to punish folks without any true strategy or care for what consequences could follow. I like damaged heroes if they are also smart heroes; Junco was just damaged.

“I am the demon and the demon is me.”
Book 5: Magpie Bridge: Really?! Five books in and still we have the various sides bickering and scheming without the author explaining what in tarnation is going on. Beyond frustrating! There is, however,
a tonal shift and now we get three male narrators for a bunch of POVs. I get maybe showing us Tier and Lucan’s POV, but Ashur, Annun, or Tessen? It felt unnecessary and disrupted the rhythm of the story.
As much as I enjoy Steve West and Ray Porter elsewhere, narrator Kristen Sieh was so phenomenal,
I would have preferred to let her continue solo. This book attempted to explain the plot with mythology wrapped in flashbacks and divided into multiple characters, but only succeeded in convincing me that the author bit off more than she could chew.

“Killing has always been my one true super power.”
Book 6: Return: We get a climax and comeuppances and plans come together. But I have so many questions, big and small. What was the point of the seven entering the pillars? Why have each of them connected to one of the departed? Why did people’s hair color lighten as they leveled up? Are we really expected to believe that millennia old beings are so petty and cruel? And the idea that all these schemers relied upon legions of followers doing horrible things on blind faith, without the slightest clue how their actions fit into the plan? So many new uber powers and concepts (metamorphosis, time manipulation, soul capturing…) and confusing motivations. I think I could listen to this again and still not understand the hows and whys. Only, I’m not sure I care to go thru the effort.

The most beautiful story written by JA Huss

This is absolutely the best romantic story I could imagine! My favorite book by JA Huss. Unlike anything else I’ve read by her and I’ve read them all!! It’s classic romance, not dark like most of them are. I love those too for sure. But this one...this love story is just beautiful! “I’m more than satisfied!” Kristen’s narrative was THE BEST!! Her voice of the characters was spot on! She sounded just like one would expect Junco to sound. And her Tier voice made me completely fall in love with him. It was hard to follow the others for I Am Not Junco because her voice was stuck in my head from I Am Just Junco. However, I was so, so, so happy to have the opportunity to read and listen to this story! I don’t think another book will ever top it!!

I need more!

I’m obsessed! I don’t know what she can even expand on to be honest, but I want her to try. I need more Junco in my life!

Not for me

I love JA’s books when I’m looking for something really deep and steamy. This series is just not for me though. It’s just deep. No steamy bits to salivate over. Which might be what someone has been looking for. It would be older teen friendly if you have one who has been wanting to read JA but you didn’t want to give them the steamy books. But for me I find it relentlessly dark. It just goes on and on beating the heroine down. No one has her back. Ever. When you think someone finally does it turns out they are using her. I’m giving up half way through. I just can’t anymore. Finished the first book. Bought this one because I wanted to know how it ended and see her get her win. But yeah, it’s not going to happen. I am a happy ending kind of reader. Some people aren’t and I know JA doesn’t necessarily need a shiny happy ending or a lot of light in her stories. There’s usually something to bring it up though. At least one person for the hero to trust even if they don’t know it. But not this one. When I start feeling like it’s homework to pick up the book it’s time to stop trying. Sorry JA. I know this is someone’s cup of tea. It’s just not mine.

Excellent series

I am a voracious reader.I’ve been known to read at stoplights. The series always kept me guessing and always wanting more. This doesn’t happen often. I binge listened to both books and still want more.

Where was this?!

I listened to the first book and almost DNF several times. I hated Junco (and still do, sue me.) She's angsty in a teenager way and I feel like a 13 year old girl wrote her.
HOWEVER, the last hour of Book One was jarringly good? so I picked this up. Was not disappointed! It's never going to win any high literary awards and Junco is still Mary Sue. At least this book is enjoyable and creative. I never thought about rage quitting this book. So, if you can stomach the first, the second is worth it, I promise!

Incredible story!!

I don’t usually enjoy science fiction but this story is so incredible! Junco’s story is relatable and seems even possible! I’m sad it’s over but I’m so happy at the ending!!
