Publisher's summary

When I was six, my Momma tossed me out of a low-flying plane.

I'd be lying if I said I didn't deserve it.

Wrenched from dust-choked, Texas ghost towns, and discarded in a lush Zambian forest, Marcus Fox became a welcome member of the fearless tribe that saved him. With the help and guidance of his new people, he learned how to fight for survival, hunt for his supper, and repress the scars of his abandonment. As he grew to premature manhood, familial betrayal came calling once more, leaving him broken and alone, yet again.

With the past never behind him, he'll venture down a twisty, bone-scattered road in search of the infernal woman who started him on his tortured path. Perhaps she has some passable answer to his one pressing question: Who is Marcus Fox?

An interesting idea, but executed poorly.

I completed this audiobook in order to give the author the chance at a fair review, even though there were many times I wanted to quit listening.

First, I think it was a big mistake for the author to read the story himself. From the beginning I felt disconnected from the story with the author reading the story vs. a professional who would perform and make the characters more relatable by bringing the characters to life.

Second, the back story of the main character was interesting, but once he was abandoned as a young child and then raised in Africa he seemed to adopt many American-like behaviors that seemed too unrealistic. It seemed like he was raised as an American by a distant African tribe. For some reason that seemed less likely to happen than the banshee, spirits, or lions being able to sniff out a specific characteristic of that tribes DNA.

The story lacked the character and story development to help me relate to the book.

Enjoyable listen, good book!

Bravo Bryon Cahill on a most exciting debut novel. Fast paced and sometimes heart breaking story of Marcus Fox. He was born to criminal parents who never really loved him at all. While on the lam from the law, they tossed him out of a plane into African waters, where he was rescued by a respected tribe member. He was then blessed by a family who treated him as their own and did love him. Marcus had one adventure after the other and I was anxious for more! I would recommend this book to anyone with an adventurous spirit.

Good idea but lacking

I liked the idea of this story but it wasn't believable and I wasn't really concerned about what was going to happen to Marcus. I'm not really sure why I didn't care much about him but I didn't feel any connection to him. I didn't have any problems listening to it but it isn't something I would consider listening to again or recommend to anyone else. I was voluntarily provided this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator.

WHAT A FANTASY!

I enjoyed it! The author has an incredibly vivid imagination. The narration was great and kept me entertained. The author did a great job with the characters and plot. This was my first book by this author and I look forward to reading more of his books! I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

what the f@#k!!!

This book drops the f@#k bombs so many time that if you cut it out of the story you would lose at least 1/2 of the story. Then if you cut all the other curse words you would lose 1/3 of the book. And it seems Marcus Fox can't die he just begins a new adventure. I tried to listen to what was happening but between the f@#k bombs and things repeated in threes constantly I had to delete this book (actually my Audible book) from my collection.

Surreal!

A character study of Marcus Fox, from a young boy coping with abuse and abandonment, to a young man searching to identify his inner-self, and claim his place in life. A unique and interesting account of Marcus’s extraordinary, and sometimes mythical journey through life.
