Publisher's summary

“Me and you. It’ll never happen. Not today, not tomorrow, not five years from now. Not when some idiot breaks your heart, or when you realise what your little sundresses do to everyone. Not when you’re thirty, not when you’re fifty. I’m going to push your limits, break you down, make you cry, and in the end...I’ll save you.”

Some people exist in the blessed light of day, but I'm not one of those people. I exist in the bleak grey of a post-twilight world, where the warmth is sucked from the air and the weightless shadows come out to play. I will never be free because I have a demon. It wasn’t always with me, but something happened, something bad. I lost a year of my life, and now here I am, just me and my demon.

Maybe the demon is him: Nicholai Fell. He exists in the horrible darkness of a moonless night: quiet, full of mystery, completely unreachable. He might be in the profession of saving people, but it isn’t going to work this time. Not even when he starts to break all of his own rules.

Because maybe...

Just maybe...

My demon is me.

An awe-inspiring read!

When all you have left is a name...

The book deals with a lot of stuff - A LOT. A book that pulls at your heart strings. A book that will cause you a lot of pain. A book that will enforce you on a journey that you may not have wanted to take but in the end, are glad it did.

From the first sentence, I knew I was going to be hooked! Emotional, poetic, poignant and powerful.

The heroine is detached from herself and the world but she eventually finds herself - it took a long journey and not a pleasant one.

Full of emotion, pain, torture, memories, detachment, journey and love.

Perfect for readers of contemporary romance.

This narrator is a favourite of mine but I could not hear the heroine's voice through her which is a bit disappointing. Nonetheless, I still enjoyed listening to this coming alive and experiencing it again like the first time I read it.

Love

Honestly I can’t believe I’ve only just discovered this author. Her stories will always captivate you and surprise you. If you’re hesitant about this book (or any by Jane Washington for that matter) please don’t be. You won’t regret her stories.

Not what I was expecting

The story was not what I am used to reading. The demons mentioned in the summary are metaphorical, not actual. This is a story set in the real world and the MC is a girl dealing with serious depression and trauma. There were points in the book that I contemplated stopping reading because the MC was dealing with so much and the book became very depressing, but I stuck with it and there was character growth and change resulting in a happy ending. This book is good for readers that like to get into the psyche of characters and really understand them from the inside out.

Just bad.

Love the narrator! But the storyline? The characters? They all felt terribly flat! I appreciate the attempt to jump on the mental health bandwagon, but you can tell not even a small amount of of research was done before writing this book. Which left us with a plethora of characters who have a dash of PTSD, with a pinch of OCD, all topped off with random self harm, and...BDSM???

Pedophile???

Only seven chapters in and I’m uncomfortable with it being about a high schooler and her guidance counselor (even if she’s technically 18). And that’s not even the “trigger” warned about in the description.
