A sacred oath, a fallen angel, a forbidden love...

This darkly romantic story features our heroine, Nora Grey, a seemingly normal teenage girl with her own shadowy connection to the Nephilim, and a super-alluring bad boy, Patch, now her deskmate in biology class.

Together they find themselves at the centre of a centuries-old feud between a fallen angel and a Nephilim. Forced to sit next to Patch in science class, Nora attempts to resist his flirting, though she gradually falls for him against her better judgment.

Meanwhile creepy things are going on with a mysterious stalker following her car, breaking into her house, and attacking her best friend, Vi. Nora suspects Patch, but there are other suspects too - not least a new boy who has transferred from a different college after being wrongly accused of murdering his girlfriend. And he seems to have taken a shine to Nora....

Love certainly is dangerous. And someone is going to have to make the ultimate sacrifice for it.

I have to say that I was a little disappointed with this one. After reading Cassandra Clares books, I was hoping for something of a similar theme when I read mentions of the Nephlym. Although you get the teenage lust, girl attracted to the bad boy, and all that stuff, I found the book jumpy, not very well thought out and a bit rushed in some places, where Becca could have had a bit of fun with the characters, and gone into a bit more detail in the scenes. To me, it felt like it was written by a teenager or young person - someone who hasn't had a lot of life experience and lacks the knowledge to create a story that will really capture the reader's imagination. Overall, 3 stars. Hopefully Becca's writing will only get better.

Overall the story is great! It keep me wanting more. I was finished with the book in three days. It had a lot of mystery and suspense to it other than just your typical love story. The only thing that bothered me was the main character seemed to be very naïve about things and put herself in situations most people wouldn't, which bothered me a little. On the other hand because she was so naïve and put herself in those situations it made the story more dangerous and suspenseful. So overall the story was really good and definitely made you want to keep reading!

Really enjoyed this book! I'm a big series fan.

After reading the book myself a few times, I thought I’d get an audio copy. To begin with I wasn’t too excited about the narrator. I think she struggled with Latch’s voice a little and it didn’t sound like I pictured it in my head but it did get better as the story went on and I ended up enjoying it. Would have been great having a male read the male voices though. Love the book!

Stay with it

What did you like best about Hush, Hush? What did you like least?

I liked Patch's character (silly name, though) and I have no affection for the main character, Whatshername - maybe I no longer understand teenagers, but I remember being much more interesting at that age.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I would have upped the pace of the story quite a bit, as well as created a more engaging ecosystem - the town where story is set, surrounding geography, community colour - for the characters to live in. Coming off of the Shiver series, this aspect of the book was lacking.

What didn’t you like about Caitlin Greer’s performance?

Forgettable.

Was Hush, Hush worth the listening time?

The jury's still out. Given the reviews I'll give the series one more book before deciding if I'll warm to it.

Great Plot, Writing Not So Much ...
