Publisher's summary

With a Category 5 hurricane barreling towards the southeast coast of Florida, Kayla Woodbridge is forced to cut her beach vacation with her children short and return home to prepare for the coming storm. Boone Chadwick, a new friend she met at the beach while vacationing, isn't as concerned about the impending storm as Kayla is and refuses to heed her warnings to vacate the island.

When the causeway bridge, the only road on and off the island, is destroyed after being struck by a barge, Boone gets stranded on the island with eleven others from his hotel, their location a direct target for the landfall of Hurricane Phillipe. Failure to evacuate turns into a fight for survival for all who remain. Kayla, back home in Nanette, is forced to face the storm at home alone with her children, Kelly and Kyle, after her husband, Clint, is arrested and charged with the murder of his mistress.

The looming, powerful hurricane also has another target in sight - the levee surrounding Lake Okeechobee. Is it strong enough to withstand 150 mph winds, or will Phillipe be the hurricane that brings it down?

Deadly Chaos and Life Choices

Kayla and her children are vacationing on the southeast coast of Florida while her husband prepares their home for an impending category 5 hurricane.  Of course, there is more to this story – lots more!! A murder, adultery, and a levy that is bound to break if Hurricane Phillipe stays on course.  People who remain at the resort, ignoring calls to leave are faced with certain death.  All this adds up to an exciting, edge-of-your-seat book as the author, Glenda Norwood Petz weaves a careful, well-thought-out story that demonstrates chaos comes in many forms.

Petz weaves realistic characters, situations, and dialog into her story which moves forward at a quick steady pace.  A dynamic story where the listener cheers for the death of some characters and tears roll for others.  Unable to catch her breath, Kayla moves from one bad situation into another rolling with each punch life has dealt her.

The narrator, Lorin McCraley gives an excellent performance moving the story along with realistic emotions and more.  She speaks clearly and keeps the story moving at a steady yet at times communicating the seriousness of the situation through the cadence and tone of her voice.  I have not had the pleasure of hearing Ms. McCraley before but look forward to hearing more.

This is an exciting and well-executed suspense story where character connections are strong and evolve naturally within the book giving the listener a thrill a minute.  You cannot help but become drawn into this story.

There were no issues with the quality or production of this audiobook, it was clear and well produced.

A Wonderful Tale

For those that may be on the fence wondering whether or not they should invest their time in a tale about a storm, I would encourage you to not make any assumptions and to take the leap. If you do, You’ll find yourself immersed into a world with strong characters placed in unfortunate circumstances which many of us find ourselves in daily as a result of the decision we made in our life.
One might say that it’s not about just a storm, but the rough patches we often find ourselves in. It is also encouraging to find an author’s whose optimism shines through their character’s development, especially in times of uncertainty there is always hope.
I will hope that you give this book a chance and maybe along the journey you might even learn something about yourself.
