Publisher's summary

Heris Serrano - formerly a commander in the Regular Space Service - must take whatever job she can get after her resignation under a cloud. What she can get is the captaincy of a rich old lady's space yacht...a rich old horsewoman, who has little liking for the military, and whose spoiled nephew Ronnie (and his equally spoiled friends) have been foisted on her after his folly embarrassed the family. Lady Cecelia's only apparent interest is horses - she intends to go fox hunting on the private pleasure planet of a friend of hers, Lord Thornbuckle. But events conspire to make it far more than a fox hunt.

Performed by Nanette Savard, Colleen Delany, David Coyne, Terence Aselford, Richard Rohan, Michael John Casey, Christopher Graybill, Sunny Lasskey, MB Van Dorn, Tess Rohan, Thomas Penny, Dylan Lynch, James Lewis, James Konicek, Mort Shelby.

For those that need a competency fantasy.

Graphic Audio is usually a bit more theatrical. I found the usual sound effects and music to be really subdued and unnoticeable this time around. The Graphic Audio experience felt more geared toward good voice actors and a full cast to voice all the characters. So not a whole lot of extras outside of that except a small scene at the end that is accompanied by some sound effects.

This was so much fun, finished this in an afternoon and definitely getting into part 2. This is definetly a book for those that need a strong main character who is outlandishly competent at their job. I think the writing was amazing and way ahead of its time from when this book was originally written. The main characters and even side characters were distinct and felt like living, breathing humans.

The writing was also great for the world building. I very easily could picture what was going on and never at all struggled. The plot though was a bit slow to take off, i sort of didn't see where this was going until the end.

Good but could use improvement

I own the whole series by Elizabeth Moon and really enjoy her work. I wanted to get them on audible because I don't have the time to re read them again. Not a fan of the narrator, the other voice overs however are pretty good. I'm also not a fan of the book being broken up into two parts and having to pay almost $40 for one when I could buy the whole series of books online for that. I will continue to buy the rest in order to support Elizabeth's work though.

just the beginning

Are all young people clueless about the world? It often seems so. Let's see if these youngsters mature before the captain strangles them.

70 % as good as the book

Elizabeth Moon`s writing is excellent. If you are looking for a story of strong,, intelligent women this is it.. the chief advantage of this format is that each book can be split into two parts, doubling the producers income. while the production is more faithful than a movie, if I could get a straight reading of the books, I would. The cover "art" is hideous and insulting g. The author and consumers deserve better. Because of deteriorating vision I will get the series over time, but if you can, read the books.

Not the full book

This has always been a favorite series of mine so I was delighted to buy the audible. I would have given the overall a higher rating had audible not sold only half the book at a time. These aren’t long books to begin with. Having to pay for each half with a full credit stuck in my craw.
