Publisher's Summary

In 2007, after 20 years of living in London, Kate Humble and her husband, Ludo, decided it was time to leave city life behind them. Three years later, now the owner of a Welsh smallholding, Kate hears that a nearby farm is to be broken up and sold off. Another farm lost; another opportunity for a young farmless farmer gone. Desperate to stop the sale, Kate contacts the council with an alternative plan - to keep the farm working and to run a rural skills and animal husbandry school alongside it. Against all odds, she succeeds.

Here, in Humble By Nature, Kate shares with us a highly personal account of her journey from London town house to Welsh farm. Along the way we meet Bertie and Lawrence the donkeys, Myfanwy and Blackberry the pigs, and goats Biscuit and Honey, not forgetting a dog called Badger and his unladylike sidekick, Bella. And we are introduced to the tenant farmers Tim and Sarah, the locals who helped (and some who didn't), and a whole host of newborn lambs.

Full of the warmth and passion for the natural world that makes Kate such a sought after presenter, Humble By Nature is the story of two people prepared to follow their hearts and save a small part of Britain's farming heritage, whatever the consequences.

What a lovely book

I really enjoyed listening to Humble by Nature, especially as it was narrated by Kate herself. The ups and downs of reaching a goal that Kate and her husband felt passionate about, unfolds as you listen. A wealth of information, easy to listen to and very enlightening.
Thanks Kate.

Great Listen

I really enjoyed this title. I'm someone that has no land but am drawn to the countryside and have aspirations of having a small holding. Inspirational (and brave) stuff.

Moving from a London leafy suburb to Country Living in the wilds of Wales

Could you believe that Kate Humble of TV's Lambing Live ever lived in London. Well she did with her lovely husband.

All through this book I was cheering them on through the ups and downs of finding a house and setting up a small holding. I could not believe all the red tape nor the kindness of their new neighbours.
A great read or listen. I am just listening to it again.

Well narrated but not an interesting story

I’ve always liked the author, and she narrates it well. However the story is just dull, dull....

Excellent writing

You would not have immedietly known of the struggle between her and short sighted Council.
Mind you what do you expect of such short sighte. A family innd set of Councilors. Mind you I have faced such half witted individuals

Loved this. Very well written and read by the author. A heartwarming and truthful experience of the struggles and successes of searching for the life of your dreams. Would love to hear more from this very talented lady.

A real life experience of hopes and dreams

An experience that has been well written and beautifully narrated. Sadly in life we cannot all have the chances that Kate has had but it is a story that has its ups and downs that we can all relate to. Some poignant moments
