This week the State Government announced a trial of a Banned Drinkers Register (BDR) in the Kimberley, with a similar trial having just begun in the Pilbara.
IF you're in these regions and want to buy take-away alcohol, you're going to have to show ID, with a scanner alerting the cashier if they can make a purchase.
Forgot your ID? You’re out of luck.
The register has been referred to as a harm minimization tool, designed to tackle anti-social behaviour and reduce domestic violence fuelled by alcohol.
Scantek is a Perth company who have been given the task of rolling out these scanning machines and their Managing Director Ches Rafferty joined the weekend to explain how it all works.
