A Bit Technical without Much Explanation

While I haven't yet plunged into the greater world of individual stock investing—having to this point only invested in a variety of funds—I definitely have the urge to take a more active role in investing. As such, when books like this show up at a favorite book review site, I have to check them out hoping they will help educate me so that I feel like I can take the plunge. This particular book had its pluses and minuses. You truly get the sense that this author has learned from the school of hard knocks in investing. While parts of it did feel like it was AI-assisted, much truly did seem to spring from the author's experience. I found the introductory material and even the first chapter relatively easy to understand, and I appreciated the author's discussion of his story and brief introductory remarks about investing. He even went so far as to state in the first chapter that he didn't want to overwhelm the reader with vocabulary and concepts.

Unfortunately, that personal stricture didn't last for long. Far too soon, the author was bandying about very complex investing concepts and terms I found hard to follow, even with my rather extensive reading on investing. I felt like he jumped from complex topic to complex topic too rapidly for me to follow the twists and turns. After the whirlwind of technical jargon, I felt like the author spent too long discussing the psychological aspects of investing. Two complete chapters, I believe! To truly have this be a “stock market made easy book,” the author should have spent more time explaining the basics and expanding on his tips and tricks sections so even relative investment newbies or someone who has done no stock trading at all could understand more easily. The book did have an excellent glossary, but some of those explanations should have been within the body of the book so they could have assisted with more understanding in the moment. I also wasn't wild about how, at times, the author suggested you google for more explanation and insight. We buy books and audiobooks like this one so that we can get more curated expertise than just what a Google search can provide!
