Since you were old enough to hold a job, you've been hoodwinked to believe that wealth can be created by blindly trusting in the uncontrollable and unpredictable markets: the housing market, the stock market, and the job market. I call this soul-sucking, dream-stealing dogma "The Slowlane" - an impotent financial gamble that dubiously promises wealth in a wheelchair. For those who don't want a lifetime subscription to "settle-for-less", there is an alternative.

Human beings are primates, and primates are political animals. Our brains, therefore, are designed not just to hunt and gather but also to help us get ahead socially, often via deception and self-deception. But while we may be self-interested schemers, we benefit by pretending otherwise. The less we know about our own ugly motives, the better - and thus, we don't like to talk, or even think, about the extent of our selfishness. This is "the elephant in the brain".

As an 18-year-old, black, broke, lonely, insecure, university drop-out, from a bankrupt family, I wrote in my diary that I wanted to be a 'Happy Sexy Millionaire' by the age of 25. By 25 I was a multi-millionaire having created a business worth over $300m dollars. Ironically, in achieving everything I set out to, I learnt that I was wrong about almost everything... The world had lied to me. It lied to me about how you attain fulfilment, love and success, why those things matter, and what those words actually mean.

Publisher's summary
A funny and practical guide to help you find, build, and keep the relationship of your dreams.
Have you ever looked around and wondered, 'Why has everyone found love except me?' You're not the only one. Great relationships don't just appear in our lives—they're the culmination of a series of decisions, including who to date, how to end it with the wrong person and when to commit to the right one. But our brains often get in the way. We make poor decisions, which thwart us on our quest to find lasting love.
Drawing from years of research, behavioural scientist turned dating coach Logan Ury reveals the hidden forces that cause those mistakes. But awareness on its own doesn't lead to results. You have to actually change your behaviour. Ury shows you how.
This book focuses on a different decision in each chapter, incorporating insights from behavioural science, original research, and real-life stories. You'll learn:
- What's holding you back in dating (and how to break the pattern)
- What really matters in a long-term partner (and what really doesn't)
- How to overcome the perils of online dating (and make the apps work for you)
- How to meet more people in real life (while doing activities you love)
- How to make dates fun again (so they stop feeling like job interviews)
- Why 'the spark' is a myth (but you'll find love anyway)
This data-driven, step-by-step guide to relationships, complete with hands-on exercises, is designed to transform your life. How to Not Die Alone will help you find, build and keep the relationship of your dreams.
PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying PDF will be available in your Audible Library along with the audio.

Useful but short
Since the author covers different stages of relationships, each stage seems quite short. Good ideas and insight all around though.

Garbage
Great book for feminist, I stopped listening when she said these days people have infinite options to choose from and when she mentioned those cancer online dating apps. Everything else is pretty much the same trash that’s written in other self help guru books, she actually mentions those books. Great marketing but her numbers does not add up, if what she is suggesting to people was truth there would not be skyrocketing divorce rates, as I said before, a great book for a feminist that lives in her bubble.

I absolutely love this book!
I first heard of Logan through her work with the dating app hinge on social media. I was really excited to get her book in audiobook format because she has an excellent way of delivering her advice and a really nice voice. This book is really lighthearted but also really enlightening. I’ve recommended it to all of my single friends.

Fresh and inspiring work on relationships ❤
A very positive, down to earth, realistic, deep, inspiring and funny handbook on relationships that you should have read earlier in life. Very systematic and full of gems 💎 of advises, real life stories, ideas💡 and relationships hacks. I already miss the kind and enthusiastic voice of the author as she takes you through all stages from dating, to getting serious for life, and everything in between.
I highly recommend it, it was an educational pleasure.

Required reading on dating and relationships
I downloaded this book following the recommendation from Ali Abdaal. It was truly a transformative listening experience.
I had been dating on and off for the past 2 or so years, not really finding anyone that I felt were a good fit for me. I then had a break from dating to focus on myself and recompose but I was tired of being single and wanted to make a change - and also do it right. Ury's advice to reflect on my own reasons for waiting or holding off on dating made me realise that what I was doing was counterproductive, I needed to allow myself to be happy and find someone who makes me so.
The advice on dating techniques was very useful with some good ideas, and the advice on surveying potential partners for a long-term relationship was a big wake-up call on how I had been going about before.
I would recommend this book to anyone looking to get better at dating and find someone to make you smile.

Don't buy if you're lonely.
This is a probably a good listen if you're actively dating already and are paralyzed with choice. if your problem is that you're lonely and nobody seems to want you, this'll just make you feel worse.

Not particularly useful if you're over 20
A lot of words to describe what I consider to be basic human decency in the context of a romantic relationship. Might be helpful if you're young.

I'm not a "self help" book kind of person. Honestly, I don't like "being told what I should do" in any aspect of life. But this one hits different. Using science to win me over. Fully recommend.

Super enlightening
After realizing I’m a hesitater for all these years, I finally setup my Hinge account the day I did the blindspot test, and had a first date the next day with the first guy I matched.
We have just finished our weekend getaway, which is the third date, and still wanna see each other again😊
Super grateful and I have already recommended this book to a bunch of friends haha.

You probably need this book
Despite what the 1 star reviewer says (okay John you read Tolstoy and hate women, we get it), you will probably get something out of this book.
It is well written and narrated with practical advice. I made a lot of changes to the way I approached dating and as a result met my partner. If I hadn’t listened to this book I would have ended things too early for dumb reasons!

If you are even remotely wellread, save your money
Arm chair "science" from a Harvard graduate who works for a dating app and claims to be a behavioural scientist. This is dating advice for young, suburbanite millenials who havent read a single book on the subject before. Those types would probably find this mind blowing, for anyone who's even scratched the surface on the subject of behavioural psychology - it, her, and the delivery will likely result in a migraine. She said ""hashtag life goals" omg sooooo relatable 😅 this book belongs in girlfriend magazine or something, save space on your book shelf and look elsewhere to the many far more qualified writers on this subject.

Whether you’re single, dating or married, this is a comprehensive guide to dating and relationships. Backed by psychological theories and research, Logan tells all kinds of dating stories with the occasional pun/ dad-joke.
There’s definitely something for everyone in this book
