As a clinical psychologist, Dr. Nicole LePera often found herself frustrated by the limitations of traditional psychotherapy. Wanting more for her patients—and for herself—she began a journey to develop a united philosophy of mental, physical and spiritual wellness that equips people with the interdisciplinary tools necessary to heal themselves. After experiencing the life-changing results herself, she began to share what she'd learned with others—and soon "The Holistic Psychologist" was born. Now, Dr. LePera is ready to share her much-requested protocol with the world.

Coexisting but conflicting needs create self-sabotaging behaviors. This is why we resist efforts to change, often until they feel completely futile. But by extracting crucial insight from our most damaging habits, building emotional intelligence by better understanding our brains and bodies, releasing past experiences at a cellular level, and learning to act as our highest potential future selves, we can step out of our own way and into our potential.

In this revolutionary book, renowned physician Gabor Maté eloquently dissects how in Western countries that pride themselves on their healthcare systems, chronic illness and general ill health are on the rise. Nearly 70 percent of Americans are on at least one prescription drug; more than half take two. In Canada, every fifth person has high blood pressure. In Europe, hypertension is diagnosed in more than 30 percent of the population. And everywhere, adolescent mental illness is on the rise. So what is really “normal” when it comes to health?

Trauma is a fact of life. Veterans and their families deal with the painful aftermath of combat; one in five Americans has been molested; one in four grew up with alcoholics; one in three couples have engaged in physical violence. Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, one of the world’s foremost experts on trauma, has spent more than three decades working with survivors. In The Body Keeps the Score, he uses recent scientific advances to show how trauma literally reshapes both body and brain, compromising sufferers’ capacities for pleasure, engagement, self-control, and trust.

Most people don't realize how much unresolved emotional pain they carry around. They don't know why they always feel depressed, anxious, victimized, or disappointed. They wonder why they keep making the same self-sabotaging impulsive decisions. These patterns often stem from their lost inner child, which carries a false narrative that has been on repeat since childhood.

Have you ever wondered "Why did I do that?" or "Why can't I just control my behavior?" Others may judge our reactions and think, "What's wrong with that person?" When questioning our emotions, it's easy to place the blame on ourselves; holding ourselves and those around us to an impossible standard. It's time we started asking a different question. Through deeply personal conversations, Oprah Winfrey and renowned brain and trauma expert Dr. Bruce Perry offer a groundbreaking and profound shift from asking “What’s wrong with you?” to “What happened to you?”

Publisher's summary
Most people are stuck living life on autopilot. Are you ready to break free?
At the root of all healing work is awakening consciousness, a process of shining light into the darkness of the unknown. In recent years, Dr. Nicole LePera has become the leading voice in psychological self-healing, helping millions of people around the world rise out of survival mode to consciously create authentic lives they love.
In her first book, How to Do the Work, Dr. Nicole offered audiences a revolutionary, holistic framework for self-healing. Now, in How to Meet Your Self, she shares a book designed to help every listener uncover their Authentic Self. By objectively and compassionately observing the physical, mental, and emotional patterns that fill our days and create our current selves, we can more clearly see what we do not wish to carry into the future.
We all fall into conditioned habits and patterns—products of our past—that lead to cycles of pain, stuckness, and self-destruction. But as Dr. Nicole shares, we also have the innate ability to awaken to and change the behaviors and habits that no longer serve us, allowing us to step into the highest versions of ourselves. And as you work through this book and witness these default habits, from sleep to movement to eating, through emotional reactivity and core beliefs, you will never again have to ask: “but where do I start?”
How to Meet Your Self is a revolutionary guide, a kind and encouraging companion, and a comprehensive masterwork of self-understanding that will radically transform your inner work and outer world.

Did not disappoint!
I preordered a copy of this book around May of this year and I look forward to actually starting the work and totally transforming myself!! I went ahead and listened the audio all the way through to get an idea of what’s ahead & I’m completely blown away with how in depth & structured each section goes in How to Meet Your Self. If I could give this book more stars, I would🤩
Dr. LePera provides all the tools you need to breakthrough blockages & to get past your recurring toxic patterns that continue holding you back. We all have obstacles to overcome in this lifetime, our journey should not continuously cycle through depression & disappointment but often we get stuck repeating poor subconscious patterns that take us back to the initial obstacle we were trying to overcome… If you’re genuinely ready to transform yourself & break generational cycles of abuse & trauma for yourself and/or future generations ahead, I highly recommend investing in this step by step guide of “How to meet Your Self”, I promise you won’t regret it!

As we breakup
My partner and I are separating. As we end this week thousands of miles apart we will both begin reading this book and then how to do the work. We want so badly to be the person we see in each other and we realized we cannot do it for one another or together.
I love her work and so does he. As we decided to Separate i saw the early order special bought two copies and we will be rereading how to do the work too bc it’s extraordinary, but requires (and no the irony is not lost on me) WORK, focus and dedication to improving oneself for the right reasons. I am so happy we have gone through the turbulence that brought us to this place. Yes the work is just beginning but I believe these books will be our roadmap and together again one day
I cannot say…. But individually…. We will succeed. I was very excited to order these and will post an update

A good workbook, I guess
There is nothing I'd call new here. Aside from the workbook activities, you won't find anything substantial that is not in LaPera's last book. I suppose it's more approachable for a less mature or educated audience, it does feel a little more accessible and less scientifically driven.
It very much feels like this book was bought by the publisher as a "sequel," but I'm not really sure it stands as much beyond a supplemental materials workbook. How to do the Work is still the much better book.

When we talk about movement, most of us think "exercise." But the way we move our bodies—how we walk, roll, dance, stretch, connect, and take up space—is about so much more than physical fitness. Our movements impact our mental and emotional health . . . and when we change the way we move, we can change the way we live. Licensed clinical professional counselor and board-certified dance and movement therapist Erica Hornthal takes listeners on a step-by-step journey with a guide that is inclusive, non-prescriptive, and helps us discover the kind of movement that works best for us.

Yet highly sensitive and empathic people often give too much at the expense of their own well-being - and end up absorbing the stress of others. "To stay healthy and happy," writes Dr. Judith Orloff, "you must be ready with daily self-care practices that work." With Thriving as an Empath, she provides an invaluable resource to help you protect yourself from the stresses of an overwhelming world and embrace the "gift of being different".

Empaths have so much to offer as healers, creatives, friends, lovers, and innovators at work.
