Good advice

Author provides so good advice that I have already started using. Being a self conscious overthinker social events can be awkward. I was provided this audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review via AudiobookBlastdotcom

Connect with Their Best Selves

This is a difficult book for me to rate, but in spite of a few negative points (starting the book with a discussion of changing from introvert to extrovert and a disproportionate amount of time spent on discussion of polyamory), I think the book deserves 4 stars for its insights on human-centered focus in interactions. When I say human-focused, I'm mean a focus on the other person as a spiritual entity worthy of respect. There's a very Eastern-philosphy feel to this book with a call to speak to the other person's highest self and to influence by understanding the other person rather than trying to influence by persuasion that is self-centered. If this approach appeals to you, then you will find something valuable in this book.

An At Home Workshop

Narration - Rey Anthony Mangual - Really good. Honestly, I felt like I was listening to the author speak, so for me, that's great.

The book - well, this is one of those reads that I feel like if I get ONE thing out of it, it's been worth my time. I was having a hard time getting into it in the beginning, but then he said something that made a light bulb go off for me and I was hooked through to the end.

I got my one thing, and then a couple more to go along with it, so I'm happy. I will say that I was a little confused when he was talking about his relationship with his wife and kids and then he started talking about a relationship with another woman (who remained nameless) Then in the next section, he addressed polyamory and I thought....OH! NOW that makes sense! So there's a fair bit of discussions regarding personal relationships - really personal - well, dating advice, so for a married, non polyamorous individual, that part wasn't really useful to me, but would have come in handy about 25 years ago!

It's a fairly engaging listen with some sound advice and as with any book of this type - you, as the listener, get to decide what parts are gold and what parts aren't as useful for your situation.

Made me Think

What made the experience of listening to How to Connect with Anyone the most enjoyable?

The narrator has a pleasant voice and the book has a nice pace covering different topics.

What did you like best about this story?

This is not a story but a self help book. Having said that, much of the content seems to be based on the personal experiences of the author Steve Pavlina, a pretty well known blogger. The author shares many of his personal experiences and anecdotes. This makes for an interesting listen, but leaves me wondering if what worked for him would work just as well for others. The specific chapter I liked best was about long term relationships and when it is time to move on, as it made me think a lot.

Which scene was your favorite?

I like the idea about connecting with anyone by viewing the world and it's people as already connected and part of a larger whole. This idea, when internalized, can help with overcoming the natural fear and reservedness that some of us feel on meeting new people.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, it's a bit too heavy for a single sitting.

Any additional comments?

Cannot stomach the new age cult in this book

The book is not based on sound science but in some new age cult. Cannot stomach listening to the full book. Stopped a third of the way through.
