Story
The DFZ, the metropolis formerly known as Detroit, is the world’s most magical city with a population of nine million and zero public safety laws. That’s a lot of mages, cybernetically enhanced chrome heads, and mythical beasties who die, get into debt, and otherwise fail to pay their rent. When they can’t pay their bills, their stuff gets sold to the highest bidder. That’s when they call me. I’m a Cleaner: a freelance mage employed by the DFZ to sort through the mountains of magical junk people leave behind. It’s not a pretty job, or a safe one....

As the daughter of the most powerful trader in the Narrows, the sea is the only home 17-year-old Fable has ever known. It's been four years since the night she watched her mother drown during an unforgiving storm. The next day, her father abandoned her on a legendary island filled with thieves and little food. To survive, she must keep to herself, learn to trust no one, and rely on the unique skills her mother taught her. The only thing that keeps her going is the goal of getting off the island, finding her father, and demanding her rightful place beside him and his crew.

I decided that Orion Lake needed to die after the second time he saved my life. Everyone loves Orion Lake. Everyone else, that is. Far as I’m concerned, he can keep his flashy combat magic to himself. I’m not joining his pack of adoring fans. I don’t need help surviving the Scholomance, even if they do. Forget the hordes of monsters and cursed artifacts; I’m probably the most dangerous thing in the place. Publisher's Summary
Not all wizards were born to be heroes.
Things not to do when you find out you’re a wizard:
1. Do not destroy your apartment with magical fire. You WILL NOT get the security deposit back.
2. Do not form an alliance with the guy who is trying to murder you. This will end badly.
3. Do not drag the girl you’re desperately in love with into your wizard mess. You risk her watching you fail miserably.
4. Under no circumstances should you get in the middle of an epic magical battle. Death will happen. Lots of death and bad things.

I really liked how this book went. I enjoyed the narrator. He held me captive in the story. The story is fun. I also liked getting to know everyone. I have a ADHD 12 almost 13 year old son that enjoys audibles. I plan on recommending him getting this book as one of his class assignments.

All thing magic literally in the palm of your hand!
I got a kick out of this book. I thought it was funny. To me it maybe leans a little more towards YA even though the characters are in high school but I didn’t mind. It gave me some major Percy Jackson vibes with a hint of Harry Potter with the whole “you’re a wizard!” and discovering magic is indeed real. I loved the idea of a cellphone that has any and all magical information stored on it with apps included. I mean, we are in the 21st century after all. The story moves at a steady pace from beginning to end. Although I kind of felt the battle was a little too quick to happen and maybe a little anticlimactic. It just seemed to happen too fast and not enough tension with the main villain. I’m not sure I completely trust Eric yet either. I’m curious to see how Bryant takes to his magical abilities and I definitely want to see what roles Devon and Elizabeth play in all this.
The narrator did a great job capturing the awkwardness of Bryant’s character. As well as Devon’s suave confidence and Elizabeth’s no nonsense take charge attitude.

This book was so much fun!
I have to say that I enjoyed this book from start to finish! The narrator for the book was excellent and had me captivated from the start. This book was not what I was expecting at all, so it was a fun surprise and completely worth listening to. The characters are relatable, which makes the shenanigans that they get into even funnier. All in all, this is actually a book I would love for my oldest son to listen to as well. Either way, I will be looking into more books by Megan O' Russell for sure!

Absolutely brilliant!
When I saw the title of this book I was intrigued. It sounded like a great story and I wasn't disappointed. A full on magical encounter.
Bryant Adams is a normal nerdy shy boy. He has a crush on his classmate Elizabeth but he's too shy to tell her how he feels. His best friend Devon is a girl magnet and they all are drawn to his charms. His parents are divorced and he lives with his mum but goes to check on his rich dad's apartment once a week with Devon usually in tow.
But this particular week is not going to be like any other. Starting with the phone Bryant finds in the taxi cab.
Bryan's week is about to get all kinds of crazy with magic, wizards and lots of fires happening.
It was a fast paced story that kept me gripped until the end. The narrator is perfect for this book. He really brings the story to life. I can't wait to listen to the next book in the series. I received a free copy of this book from the author but the opinions expressed are my own. Trust me this book is brilliant.
