How Happiness Happens

As Max Lucado states,”People have a way of becoming what you encourage them to be.” This book is a great reminder to me to be even more of an encourager to the people in my life.
Max does a wonderful job of citing both stories from Scripture and stories from everyday life. What a blessing this book has been for me. You too will be blessed by this book and Max’s words. He always seems to be speaking right to you.

A very religious book

Maybe I missed it in the description... I wish I had known that this book was so heavy on the religion. There are some great ideas, but too many references to Jesus and the Bible. The stories are a little odd too, it’s hard to know when the author is speaking in advice or story. I returned the book, as I couldn’t get more than a few hours in.

It is a Christian Religion Book

It is a Christian Religion Book full of Jesus and biblical stories/parables. These are all well-known stories if you read Christian literature before. So, you may not need to read the book to learn those.

A great book!

Things don’t make you happy. If they do it’s momentary. Happiness is found in the one who gives eternal joy and this book can point you toward Him. Thanks Mr. Lucado!

Not very inspiring

Content is lots of Bible quotes and vague parallels. Narrators tone and voice are almost as if he’s trying to emphasize everything. Like he’s telling a child’s story. Heard Max Lucas’s on the Dave Ramsey Show and enjoy many books DR recommends, but not this one. Might be better read by author, who is great to listen to and often has practical wisdom for all areas of life. Couldn’t get past Chapter 2..

Preaching

Too many biblical references. It was difficult to follow a single sentence because the author wanted to be as complete as possible and reference points in the Bible. It was just a little bit too much and I just couldn’t do it. I come from a religious background so I don’t consider that part offensive. But it was a little bit of a bait and switch.

Sermon on Happiness

It's not the research driven or data based Happiness manual you seek.

It is sermon, with Jesus as the center. It's okay if the basis of your inference is a conversation between God and angels.

I believe in God, but I wasn't buying a sermon from Lucado.

Chapter 4 is where it became unbearable.
There are empirical habits for Happiness, this book doesn't have it.
