Publisher's Summary

Attorney Sam Trevisani never thought he’d play the bad guy, but now his job makes him the enemy of every dog owner in town - and whenever he meets his main opponent, Dan Bailey, the vet gives him the evil eye. Tired of playing for the wrong side, Sam has to find a solution. Maybe the tempting Dr. Bailey can help him find a solution for his restless need for change. Or maybe it’s his attraction to the vet that pushes him to pay a late-night visit.

Tired of town politics and manipulative games, Dan has no interest in helping the flashy lawyer. Yet Sam's dogged interest in him proves oddly appealing. Dan reluctantly allows the attractive lawyer into his house, and sparks fly. Sam doesn't mind hookups, but Dan doesn't do them - yet in one night, they both change their minds.

Determined to keep Dan from running away from something promising between them, Sam has to get past his attorney uncle, Dan's pack of misfit dogs, and a powerful but unpleasant client who could end not only the town's chance for a dog park but any chance of romance between the lawyer and the vet.

well howdy-do

Sam is a lawyer who is cheesy and not the best seducer, but it made for a funny and cute start in getting the two men together. Dan, a vet who wants to develop a dog park, really didn’t want to like Sam as he was the lawyer hired to fight against him. No matter how hard Dan tried to stay clear of Sam, Sam just kept coming around.

Sam and Dan were really sweet guys. Sam’s inability to smooth talk had me smiling throughout the audio. Sam really wanted more and was a little pushy, which I liked, as Dan seemed to need it to understand Sam’s wants.

This is my first contemporary story by Summer Devon and it did not disappoint. There were two sexy men, low angst, and a little bit of drama wrapped up in a sweet story.

Chris Meadows did a great job. He’s clear and easy to understand, plus changing the voices for the characters was a nice touch. He did a great job expressing the tone of the story and the emotions.

A sweet and hot enemy to lovers story!

This is the first contemporary story I've read by Summer Devon and the first audiobook I've listened to by Chris Meadows. His voice is so easy to listen to and he nailed every nuance of the story. I've tried to find other audiobooks performed by him and don't find any on Audible. If he's new to audiobook narration he really knocked this one out of the park.

Sam and Dan are adversaries; on opposite sides regarding the creation of a dog park. Sam is an attorney representing a client who refuses to allow the park to be built on land he donated to the city. Dan is a veterinarian who knows how much the community needs this park for their pets.

Hot Under the Collar is also a bit of a coming out story. Sam works for his uncle's law firm where must of the clients are conservative. He's not out and keeps his sexuality hidden at work. Dan is out and has a huge problem with deceptive people due to previous things in his personal life. He understands Chris's need for discretion at work but then something happens that leads him to believe that Chris is using him.

Overall the story is light and very enjoyable; the angst factor is pretty low. If you enjoy light, fluffy romances with hot guys and animals you should enjoy this one.

I'll finish by saying I love this length of audiobook. At just a bit over 3 hours it helped make the drudgery of an afternoon spent doing laundry actually enjoyable. 😊

A free copy of this audiobook was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.

Sweet story

I enjoyed this sweet and romantic story. Enemies to lovers trope is my favorite, and I really liked following how the relationship between Sam and Dan developed and grew from not liking each other, to becoming friends and then lovers. This story is short, sweet, and a perfect listen that cheered me up when I needed it very much. Narrator did a great job giving voices to both characters and turning this sweet story into an amazing listening experience. I am looking forward to more books by this author/narrator team.

Sweet and fun frenemies to lovers!

Overall: 4 Stars!

Sam was absolutely adorable! Yes, he might have tried being the cocky, self-assured lawyer at first, but it didn't really work out for him. All the things he was willing to do to get Dan to like him back, just made me want to squish him and while closeted characters generally frustrate me, I just couldn't not love Sam. I really liked Dan, too, although it took me longer to warm up to him. I'm not even sure why. *shrugs* They did have chemistry and were sweet together.

The narration was pretty good. Chris Meadows has an enjoyable voice and brought the story to life for me.

This was such an entertaining audiobook and I had so much fun listening to it. Very recommendable!

Sweet Story

This is a sweet and cute enemies to lovers quick listen. Sam and Dan start out on opposite sides of the fence but they quickly get over that as their attraction grows. I really like that although there is some drama and conflict, there is not a lot of angst. The narrator did a good job with the story and all of the characters. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Sweet, Fun Story, Chris Meadows is great in this

Oh I needed something funny and sweet, and one touch of the sample button on Audible and Chris Meadow’s warm and sensual voice had me hooked...

Hot Under the Collar is an opposites attract/enemies to lovers story that rolls along at a nice speed and kept me smiling. I enjoyed Sam’s dogged pursuit of Dan, and Dan’s gruff resistance (yeah, he doesn’t resist too hard) makes their banter a lot of fun.

When these two do end up in bed Summer Devon treats us to some lusciously dirty sex, and with the smokin’ chemistry between Dan and Sam, their budding relationship works for me. It’s still early days for these two, but Sam’s a good influence and I like who Dan is when they’re together.

Sam’s a great character and he’s definitely the star of this one. He’s making some big changes in his life, and watching him work through it all is the high-point of this novel for me. So adorable.

I enjoyed the variety of voices narrator Chris Meadows uses. He does a great job with the supporting characters, and he makes the most of the lighthearted moments. Looks like this is his first audiobook performance, and I hope he’ll be reading to me again soon.

Sam trying to find his place, be happy in his life.
It was a sweet, low angst, easy listen with great flow.

I have never heard of this narrator before but he did a great job of bring this book to life. I'd happily listen to other titles from him.

All I need are you and the furbabies in my bed!

I think this is a lovely contemporary romance with an excellent narration from Chris Meadows. 💜 I’ll admit, when it comes to Summer Devon, I usually see her side by side with lovely and poignant historical romances. 😁 So I was quite eager to see my first contemporary Devon book. Plus, puppies!!! 😍 So now, let’s start reviewing. 😉

Sam is working as an attorney at his Uncle’s law firm. Although he doesn’t hate lawyering, he truly hates working for the man his uncle assigned him to, rich, powerful and unnecessarily vindictive man. So when Sam found himself quashing for the town’s hope for a lovely dog park for his client, it was the end of the tether for him. But there’s always some good fortune that comes out of the most unpleasant miseries. And his good fortune is Dan Bailey, the town vet, who was Sam’s former schoolmate and who now hates his gut for destroying townfolks’ dog park dream. Sam knows he needed a change and he wanted Dan to be part of his new life. Now Sam just needs to convince skittish and pragmatic Dan to accept that they could be so good together if only Dan gives him a chance.

It’s a light-hearted contemporary romance with enemies-to-lovers trope and a funny meet-cute. Very low angst and sweet. And the one thing that amuses me is how Summer Devon always manages to find the most suitable narrators for her stories. This is a new-to-me narrator but the narration and performance is not only pleasant but goes very well with this story. It was short, fun and entertaining. I do want an epilogue for Dan and Sam but the ending was cute and sweet so I can’t really complain. Overall, if you are looking for a low-angst, feel-good, short listen, you might like this comforting and sweet story.

Loved it!

Such a lovely story. I was quite prepared to not like Sam - at first, but I warmed to him almost immediately ❤️ Dan and his dogs were lovely. Uncle Ricky was definitely a nice surprise ally.
The story is fun, sweet with a good bit of heat.
Chris Meadows was good, kept me engaged. There were a few times I couldn't distinguish between the two MC's, but overall a really good way to enjoy the story.
