Publisher's summary

NARRATED SELECTIONS FROM THE BOOK, WITH ORIGINAL SCORE

In Horseshoes and Hand Grenades, John Corabi recounts his life from the mean streets of Philadelphia to the Sunset Strip. Take a look behind the scenes at Corabi’s time fronting Mötley Crüe, Union, and The Dead Daisies, as well as his time playing rhythm guitar with Ratt and even his stint as a long-haul trucker. Whether it’s detailing his parents' difficult divorce, his family’s dark history of abuse, his run-in with a serial killer, or simply the best way to arrive at a wedding—which maybe is by helicopter and maybe it isn’t—he pulls no punches and outlines the good and bad of it all in this raucous autobiography.

Great Read for Rock Fans of All Genres

Great raw stories and adventures starting out of the awesome Phila Rock Scene that I grew up in. Many new behind the scenes events we never knew about. If you ever met John, “yoos” would know he’s a typical no BS Phila native and adventures in this book were amazing. Great read…jay from Phila

Great story

John is an amazingly talented singer with a really interesting story and it was a great listen.

The hardest part about this book was his own reading of it. I listen to a lot of audio books, and prefer authors reading their own stories but in this case he might not be a super strong reader or maybe he just didn't have a lot to do with the actual writing of this book because his inflections weren't in the proper part of the sentence, or inflection trailed up as if it were a question, or he's just not a strong reader.
Even an elementary aged child in my car who listed to a small snippet thought it was as if he was reading the material for the first time.

That being said, if you are a fan of him and his music, **please do get this book anyway.**
I ordered a physical copy and this listen to support him and I have purchased everything that he has sung, if you're reading this you will likely do the same so please don't let this detract you.

Really good

At first I thought there were too many stories and details about John’s family and childhood - we all wanted to hear about the Motley days, right?!?! But once you get to the end of the book it all makes sense why he talked about it so much. It was a really good book. I was sad when I got to the end because I enjoyed all his stories.

Loved the entire thing

I read a lot of rock/metal biographies and this is one of my favorites. I've always thought Corabi was underrated. what a life.
I've listened to many books by the author and the reading doesn't always go so well. a couple of stumbles here and there, but I love hearing it in his voice with his actual expressions. highly recommend

Good times bad times

What a story. At times the story jumps around but kept me engaged. I had a hard time turning the book off when I had to do something else. I flew from London back to LAX and listened for 8 straight hours. Crab went through a lot of rough times and I’m glad he’s still here putting out great music. I followed his career from The Scream to the Crue to Union through the Dead Daisy’s. In the book I learned of other bands that he played in whether he was in gong or playing guitar or both. This is a great story and I wish Corabi more success.

I didn’t want this to end.

I loved every word of this story. Having befriended John over the last few years, this story meant a lot to hear. I wanted to portal right to him a couple of times and give the guy a hug. Jesus. There’s some gnarly stuff in this book. But there are some really amazing lessons, some very uplifting stories, and some wonderful humor throughout. I laughed out loud many many times. It’s one of my favorite biographies I’ve ever read.

Man I tell ya….Corabi is alright in my book.

I looked for this on Audible a while ago, but no dice. Now I find it, and it is one of the best (at least top 5) autobiographies on rock and roll. I think the fact that Mr. Corabi was so brutally open about his early life and his family that you start rooting for him just to live another day, even though you realize he is narrating the book! Somehow, the author turns a peak behind the proverbial rock and roll curtain into a deep connection between his old friend the listener. So, belly up to the bar and order whatever you like so Ian can tell you how rock and roll can be your musical salvation, too.
