Publisher's summary

The tenth book in the bestselling Chronicles of St Mary's series which follows a group of tea-soaked disaster magnets as they hurtle their way around History.

You can't change History. History doesn't like it. There are always consequences.

Max is no stranger to taking matters into her own hands. Especially when she's had A Brilliant Idea. Yes, it will mean breaking a few rules, but - as Max always says - they're not her rules.

Seconded to the Time Police to join in the hunt for the renegade Clive Ronan, Max is a long way from St Mary's. But life in the future does have its plus points - although not for long.

A problem with the Time Map reveals chaos in the 16th century and the wrong Tudor queen on the throne. History has gone rogue, there's a St Mary's team right in the firing line and Max must step up.

You know what they say. Hope for the best. But plan for the worst.

I love these books. Absolutely love them. I've listened to the series repeatedly and this one is just as amazing as the others....One complaint, we need much more Marcum!

BEST SERIES EVER!!!!

I NEVER review books, but am making an exception with this book and the ENTIRE series! Laughter, tears, thrill, chills and tons of history. But history told in a manner that makes you want to run to the Library and learn all you can about the subject. It has it all. Thank you Jodi Taylor for your unbelievable wit and superior writing. And narrator Zara Ramm for outstanding execution that makes me feel like I'm part of St. Mary's. MORE PLEASE!!!

Best Yet

I follow this series avidly, and this is the best of the best. Read them all! Begin at the beginning, go one till you get to the end, then join the rest of us in the nail-biting purgatory which is the wait for the next St Mary's book.

Brilliant writing and perfect narration

Ms. Taylor’s writing is truly a pleasure. Plenty of humor, but far from a comedy. It’s always fascinating to see authors’ take on time travel and how to deal with the inevitable paradoxes, and Ms. Taylor has, as always, taken it head on. I am so very tired of blood ‘n guts for its own sake, and there is blood here and the threat of it, but for a purpose. I grieve and worry for her characters, but she never takes it lightly, and there is a purpose to it. I fear when people are fine with the loss of fictional characters they come to know and love - how far off is it when real humans they don’t know (or worse, that they do know) are imperiled? But that’s the strength of the writing here showing through. Ms. Taylor always has an underpinning of care for humanity, and here, dodos (perhaps as symbolic of more than humanity), that I wholeheartedly appreciate. This is maybe the 10th of the series, plus the interspersed short stories that anyone who enjoys the novels will adore, and Ms. Taylor shows no sign of jumping the shark. Nicely done. Again.

For those looking for more useful clues as to whether to read this, it is smartly written (as are the rest), science fiction with science never overwhelming the fiction, action-packed enough to keep my mind occupied on 7-mile runs, gripping enough that I listen to it on my 10-minute drive to work and sit in the car until a break or I have to go in, and satisfying enough that I am always glad to have spent the time and come away with new thoughts and perspectives. I suspect that you can pick up anywhere and enjoin it, but recommend starting from the beginning - there are references to what’s gone before that enhance the enjoyment of each book, and it is a believable and interesting progression of the characters through them. In particular, I forget which book it was, but the one about Troy not only upended my education in Greek political theory but makes me wonder still about many things I “know” about current events, let alone history. In short, it is the very best of what fiction can do, and entertainment that is truly entertaining.

Ms. Ramm, the narrator, is perfect for Ms. Taylor’s writing. Though truth be told, I believe I would listen to her read the dictionary as well, or perhaps stock results. She is magnificent.

So good!

I love the Chronicles of St. Marys, each and every book, but this one was especially good. it was equal parts engaging, infuriating, and uplifting - as only Max's story can be.

Another well thought out and presented.

As always I enjoy St Mary's especially Max.
This one had a twist at the end I very much enjoyed. Keep it up.
