Story
It’s November 3, 2020, and Emma McMasters has just been elected the 46th president of the United States. She’s facing a divided Congress and nation, allies that no longer trust America, enemies that have been emboldened, and the legacy of destruction left by the last administration. She must rebuild and reestablish trust in government, in the media, and in the electoral system, all the while carrying the mantle of first female president, and along with it, the hopes and dreams of millions of women and little girls who need her to prove that a woman can get the job done.

Story
Park ranger Kyler Clemons had loved the vibe and the beach of Mustang Island. Getting caught with her boss’ wife, however, got her transferred to the wild and remote Davis Mountains State Park - in the middle of nowhere. Now after four years, she’s forgotten about the beach and has embraced the mountain life, feeling like a local. She hangs out at the Cottonwood Creek Bar and Grill. She watches football with Mark Walton. She’s taken up birdwatching and stargazing. She is perfectly content. No stress. No drama. And no desire to date. Then Lexie Walton waltzes into her life.

Twenty-three years ago, a young girl went missing. Two days later her body was found lodged beneath the footbridge over Boulder Creek. The murder shook the town but they soon found it was only the beginning. A serial killer hides among them - a serial killer who strikes twice, sometimes three times a year. Publisher's Summary
Jill Fryman (Friday to her friends) is a line supervisor at a truck manufacturing plant in a small southern Indiana town. Life on the assembly line is almost as predictable as her love life. When it comes to matters of the heart, Friday always seems to be making the wrong choices. Things go from bad to worse when El, a sultry labor organizer from the UAW, sweeps into town to unionize the plant right after it's been bought out by a Japanese firm. Sparks fly on and off the line as Jill and El fight their growing attraction for each other against a backdrop of monster trucks, catfish dinners, Pork Day USA, and a bar called Hoosier Daddy.

Surprised at how good it is
Any additional comments?
This book was terrific because the characters had depth and the humor was great. I also learned a bit about Indiana. I frequently finding myself wishing editors would take more time or pay more attention when I read lesbian fiction. This book was well written. The characters were consistent and had multi-dimensional personalities.
It was much better than most of it's genre - enjoy!

One of the best audiobooks
Ann McMan and Salem West hit this one out of the park. Solid writing with obvious research done around the subject, extremely engaging story, and more of McMan's signature characters combine here to make this a must listen. I want to go back and listen to the whole thing again! Jericho was masterful, and Aftermath was great fun, but this may have outdone them. Sit back and enjoy. Christine Williams again brings perfect narration to every voice.

One of my favourite books ever
If you could sum up Hoosier Daddy in three words, what would they be?
Hilarious
Warm
Quirky
Who was your favorite character and why?
El is brilliant, beautiful, and dedicated to her job, but is also a sweetheart with champion A++ banter and flirting skills. It’s no wonder Friday can’t stay away from her, even while they’re both mindful of their places on either side of the union/management lines.
Which character – as performed by Christine Williams – was your favorite?
Probably still El.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, definitely.
Any additional comments?
Hoosier Daddy is funny, but in a way that is smart and quirky, and I found myself constantly grinning or laughing. The locals in the story aren’t very educated and they are very peculiar, but it never makes a mockery of them. This story has so much heart and was clearly written with a lot of love, because it would have been so easy to make a bunch of caricatures instead of characters.
The first person narration works so perfectly because it feels like the reader is sitting at a table at Hoosier Daddy while Jill tells them the whole story of how she met and fell in love with El. By giving it that conversational feel, the authors cleverly skirt the showing vs telling rules of storytelling; what could have ended up as clumsy info dumping with a lesser author(s) is simply Jill is filling in the information I wouldn’t know as an outsider.
I received a free copy from the publisher for an honest review at The Lesbian Review.

A Laugh Out Loud Joy Ride
I thoroughly enjoyed reading "Hoosier Daddy" when it first came out as a paperback. I wondered if an audio version would be like a movie based on a book which is rarely as good as the book. The answer is that the audio version of "Hoosier Daddy" is every bit as good as the book. Christine Williams brought the characters to life in her excellent narration of the story. It truly is a laugh-out-loud fun experience to listen to this book. I highly recommend the audio version of "Hoosier Daddy."

Superb writing and narration.
I hugely enjoyed listening to Hoosier Daddy. Ann McMan and Salem West have used a perfect balance of harsh reality, emotion and comedy to bring this lesbian romance to life. The stories of the varied characters, the place and the 'will they, won't they' relationship between our two protagonists are beautifuly told through frequently tongue-in-cheek and often hilarious dialogue. The backdrop, of American industrial deciine set in poor, rural Indiana, adds a harsher dimension which serves to highlight difficulties the two women and the other characters face.
To a non American listener, who had no idea where Indiana was or anything else about it, this story misses a trick. It made me curious enough to do a little research but I would have liked to know more. I think that the story could have been made more accessible for a wider audience if more explanations about Indiana and its culture were included as part of the story. The history of the word Hoosier is interesting and including that plus embedding information about the overall level of poverty in Indiana and why, at the same time, it is an anti-union, 'right to work' state would have given added depth to the story, which nevertheless is very interesting and highly engaging.
Christine Williams adopts exactly the right tone for this story with her reading and is very skilled in giving the various characters believable voices so they can easily be identified. I shall look out for more audiobooks narrated by her.
