Publisher's summary

Morgan and his extended family could see the light at the end of the tunnel, dim though it may be. There was the promise of power once again. The plant was being repaired, and it looked as though it may actually run. While it meant lots of hard, sweaty work, the reward was worth the investment. The farm was growing strong, and community involvement was good. People were finally coming to terms with the fact that they needed to work together. So far Mother Nature had been on their side. But that, too, was about to change.

There was no shortage of problems. There were those in town with their own plans. And those plans did not include Sheriff Morgan Carter. For the most part, Morgan ignored the issue, thinking it would simply go away. But that was not to be. He would have to face it head on, and it just may cost him his life. As serious as the issues in town were, there were other much larger problems brewing. These were beyond his control. They were beyond the control of the entire community, even if they were banded together. And Morgan would not be able to simply ignore them either. There were forces converging on Central Florida that would bring back the uncertainty that only recently appeared to be vanquished. Only this time it would be far worse than a rogue band of federal agents. War was coming, and with it death. It would test them all.

Spend the last of days with a strong loving family

For those readers who made it this far in the series, I think we can agree that listening to this story brings us back to a family struggling to survive after a series of apocalyptic events. We feel that we are part of the family. The story is still engaging as we face new threats and accomplish small steps in recovering what the world was. The only short coming I can think of is the Sarge and the boys are a little too sophomoric but I guess that would be accurate from my understanding of military vernacular.

I will keep reading this series until we know that Morgan and his family are safe.

Duke Fontaine's narration is superbly executed as always - love listening to him.

The can keeps rolling down the road

Decent story, not a ton of new things going on. More buildup of Russian and Chinese invasion.

A Melting Pot of Characters

Duke Fontaine's narration is totally on point!

First I want to say that this is the most balanced series of any apocalyptic/prepper I've ever read as far as representation of people across the spectrum of colors and cultures in America, and I've read and listened to a lot!! It's a melting pot of characters. The survival tips and action are great!! I'm around military guys and cops regularly, so the humor is expected and appreciated.

That said I want to name my favorite and least favorite characters. To start on a positive note, I love Morgan, his strength, intelligence, obvious love and genuine stand-up caring and his deep friendship with the hard-working Thad, another favorite! Sarge is a rascal 🤪 with a heart and great leadership skills. Dalton's intensity and humor have just the right off-based flavor to make him unforgettable. And LeeAnn, whew, that's my girl.

Ok, now for my least favorites. Let's start with Mel who never says thank you and is still refusing to face reality even in the face of sorrow. She often comes across as snide, mean-spirited and childishly selfish. She needs to lighten up and get into the action more often. Sheffield is a caricuture of every faulty, should have never been promoted "lead" I've ever known. Unfortunately there are always people like this around, ducking the hard decisions that they need to prepare for but never do.
But the absolute worst is Mary. She such a tremendously, whimpering scaredycat! Doesn't matter that she's a hard worker. She's undependable, the weak link, whenever anything or even "nothing" happens. Will she ever acquire a backbone? I'm an African American female and I don't think I've ever met anyone so without grit in my 60 years. I did integration, so if someone was going to be "that kind" of scared, I think I'd have met them back then.

Overall I'm truly enjoying the series!
