Amber McCloud’s dream is to become cheer captain at the end of the year, but it’s an extra-tall order to be joyful and spirited when the quarterback of your team has been killed in a car accident. For both the team and the squad, watching Robbie get replaced by newcomer Jack Walsh is brutal. And when it turns out Jack is actually short for Jaclyn, all hell breaks loose.

The players refuse to be led by a girl, the cheerleaders are mad about the changes to their traditions, and the fact that Robbie’s been not only replaced but outshined by a QB who wears a sports bra has more than a few Atherton Alligators in a rage. Amber tries for some semblance of unity, but it quickly becomes clear that she's only got a future on the squad and with her friends if she helps them take Jack down.

Just one problem: Amber and Jack are falling for each other, and if Amber can't stand up for Jack and figure out how to get everyone to fall in line, her dream may come at the cost of her heart.

Dahlia Adler's Home Field Advantage is a sparkling romance about fighting for what—or who—you truly want.

Good story

I really enjoyed this as it brought back some nostalgia of playing football on the boys team as a girl. Lori Prince’s narration is always amazing plus the story and characters really brought everything together.

A perfect novel

The voices were superb and the story was full of tension and questions and struggle and I loved every single second of it.

This is the cutest book in the world.

I mean, seriously. It is just so sweet, even while giving an honest look at all of the hardships that queer kids face, especially in places that aren't the most progressive/friendly. The writing is so fresh and so gloriously perfect, Dahlia hits the voice just right. It makes my heart want to scream and soar. I graduated from high school in 2009 and so many of us queer kids never came out until after we graduated. But it's nice to see that arc bending slowly, to see pride take a place in the public world.

I wish this book would be added to every high school curriculum. It's that necessary.

Brave characters!

I loved this because of the great representation of queer identities and the story is definitely worth a listen. It is so relatable as someone who lives in an area that is not diverse or welcoming. The bravery of the characters is very heartwarming!

bigotry has no place in this world

I can't wait until these horrible ways of thinking are not normal and we don't have to worry about folks have to hide themselves. I love this story and I thought the main characters were real and not over dramatized for the story.

Loved this

This hit home as a student athlete that was stuck in the closet in high school. I really liked both points of view to give the reader a better understanding of each character’s internal struggle. Loved the Bi mom!

I can go for a senior year sequel

This was really good. Jack is adorable and loveable. My favorite character next to Miguel. I would love to see if Amber really did become cheer captain. That is why I'm requesting a sequel.

Really freaking excellent

I can almost guess the real life viral candid that inspired this story, the one of the female HS football player with her cheerleader gf fixing her hair ... not sure if their story actually inspired this one or not, but this is the book I've been waiting for since I saw that picture either way. well written, fantastic performance, pacing excellent, great character development of main and side characters.

If I had to wish for something, it would be a few more chapters about the fall out or else a sequel of their senior year. (I don't think there is one, but I didn't check.) Their problems aren't all solved, this is a really great happily for now after, and all the major points got resolved, but I'm left feeling like there is more story to tell.
