Publisher's Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
'Every line of serious work that I have written since 1936 has been written, directly or indirectly, against totalitarianism and for democratic Socialism as I understand it'.
Thus wrote Orwell following his experiences as a militiaman in the Spanish Civil War, chronicled in Homage to Catalonia. Here he brings to bear all the force of his humanity, passion and clarity, describing with bitter intensity the bright hopes and cynical betrayals of that chaotic episode: the revolutionary euphoria of Barcelona, the courage of ordinary Spanish men and women he fought alongside, the terror and confusion of the front, his near-fatal bullet wound and the vicious treachery of his supposed allies.
A firsthand account of the brutal conditions of the Spanish Civil War, George Orwell's Homage to Catalonia includes an introduction by Julian Symons in Penguin Modern Classics.

A classic, worth the listen.
all in all great book. Narrorater catches the book perfectly and in Orwell style a book that battles how the world works and in this case in Spain era 1920-1930's

A telling work of history
Orwell writes factually and honestly about his experiences as a militiaman during the Spanish Civil War. The tough brutal conditions, the political situation, and the ordinary people caught up in desperate times. The narration is excellent, and is efficient and matter of fact in style. A telling work of history from a personal perspective.

Tragic, profound, beautiful
Orwell's account of the front, of the anarchist cause, of the politics (as much as he understood), all of these are well penned and well spoken here.

Great book, great reader
I found this book to be captivating. The readers ability to portray Orwell’s words in such a way that I kept finding myself lost in the world of the Triumphs and Tumult of the Spanish Civil War.

Incompetence and Good Intentions
Incompetence and Good Intentions and an open mind. I knew little of the Spanish War of the 30s but now I know a great deal, mostly it's a story of George's personal journey and his encounters, written superbly and honestly.
Definitely worth reading, especially in current climate as there are many parallels.

Short but interesting story
While the story was short, it was a nice insight into Orwell's experience in the Spanish Civil War. The narrator has an excellent voice that's easy to listen to and keeps you hooked.

a very important historical document
this book is a brilliant description of what it's like to fight in a civil war (boring and brutal) particularly when the side you're on spends much of its time in- fighting. a classic by a wonderful and honest writer
