Publisher's Summary

What happens when we praise God? What are the benefits of praising him? Do you know what praise actually means?

In Holy Roar, Chris Tomlin and Darren Whitehead share a fresh perspective from the worship practices of the ancient world. They take listeners on a praise journey that answers questions and provides valuable insight. After listening to Holy Roar, you will:

  • Grow an understanding of praise with Darren's unique insights.
  • Gain a deeper understanding of how to worship.
  • Be inspired as Chris shares how those insights take shape in the stories behind some of your favorite worship songs, including "How Great Is Our God", "We Fall Down", and "Good Good Father".

Holy Roar is for:

  • Listeners of all ages interested in growing their faith
  • Pastors, worship leaders, and small group teachers leading believers

In the ancient world, something extraordinary happened when God's people gathered to worship him. It was more than just singing; it was a declaration, a proclamation, a time to fully embody praise to God for who he is and what he has done. In fact, in the Psalms, seven Hebrew words are translated into the English word praise, each of which represents a different aspect of what it means to truly praise God.

Praise the Lord!

What a great book to gain insight regarding praise. It was short and sweet, but will be a perfect length to listen to more than once to reinforce the concepts it provided.

A bit short

Great exploration in the Jewish/Biblical roots of praise and worship. Very rudimentary. I felt that if could have taken a deeper dive, however it was still informative. It felt short, but considering that the length was known in advance it really should have been expected. It left me wanted to know more.

Great food for thought.

this little book gave me some good seed material to study and preach on this subject. while I found pastor Whitehead's material good, the behind the music section seemed to be more self promotional than I would like... but hey to each his own.

Great study to go to the next level in worship

My worship pastor encouraged our entire team to read this book.

For me it gave vocabulary to the expression and emotion of worship and it’s presented in an extremely simple way.

Great to hear Tomlin share the origins of some of the most impactful songs that have come to the church in our lifetime.

Easy contemporary language for new/young in Christ believers as well.

I will never worship the same again

I have been a child of God since 1984. I have been involved in Worship as a vocalist ever since.
But today, 2021, I have a new insight thanks to this book. It was all there in the bible all along. Our inadequate English, the chosen international language, has derailed a generation.
My favourite phrase in the book..."Worship seems to be more about seeing, than singing".

Special thanks to Steph Mansfield (wannabe Ozzy), for introducing me to the book... which I think should be on the "must read" list for any leader.
